Have you tried looking for "Rosina" instead of "Rodinea?" Just a thought. Hi Terry, You ask why to try "Rosina" instead of "Rodinea." Here are a few reasons: 1. I have never heard of the name Rodinea. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist somewhere, however. In searching on Google, the only Rodinea seems to be a street in Toronto (?) 2. I have heard of several German Rosina's...including my Bavarian gr gr grandmother, and a Bavarian great-aunt. 3. All the stories about the census takers making mistakes, being in a hurry, getting caught in the rain, not knowing how to spell, being of a different nationality and therefore unfamiliar with names and spellings of others' names. 4. Experience... My ancestor "Alois," (male), written on the census as "Alice." (female). I have an ancestor with a first name of Viet. I have found it spelled as: Veit, Vert, Voit, Voight, Foit, Feit, etc. His last name, RUMPEL, has been found as: RUMPLE, RUMBLE, RUMBEL, RUNKEL, RINKLE, etc. 5. I have found more success with being very flexible about spellings than when I am not flexible. (Of course, I follow it up by looking for other corroborating evidence.) 6. I have a STAUSS who shows up in a census as STOUS. (Thank goodness for SOUNDEX for surnames!) 7. Hope this helps! Good luck, Beth STEINBERG ARNOTT ----- Original Message ----- From: "Terry King" <tmking@hurworth99.freeserve.co.uk> To: <BAVARIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 12, 2005 4:48 PM Subject: RE: [BAVARIA] EBERT > Beth, > Can you explain why ? Beth, Rodinea was English, born in London and married Wilhelm here. Her name is spelt like that on her marriage cert. It is unusual I know, but it is correct.
