    2. Thank you Steve for the tip...I noticed on the map I found that Aschaffenburg was spread out indicating a region, not a city and so this confused me a bit. I could not tell if Reistenhausen (or now named Collenburg) was in this Aschaffenburg region, but from the link George sent me for the Wurzburg diocese, it must be close, because both Aschaffenburg and Reistenhausen are listed as having church records which are available. Reistenhausen is my main objective for my Hartmann ancestors. Thanks again.. Based on a census record, I assumed the ancestor was from the city of Aschaffenburg. For years, I had tried to search every available source for the city of Ashaffenburg and did not find them. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that the census record was indicating the region of Aschaffenburg. I turned my attention to a search of villages around the city of Aschaffenburg, and eventually found them in KLEINKAHL and SONDERKAHL. Based on my experience, I would encourage searchers to research further if you find a record indicating Aschaffenburg. You may be pleasantly surprised when you are able to find even more specific information about your ancestors in a nearby village. 3. Aschaffenburg IS a city. Maybe in recent years it has incorporated very nearby villages. My great-grandmother was born in Röllfeld, and my great-grandfather was born in Grosswallstadt - they were married in Grosswallstadt. Those two villages are within about 15 miles of the city Aschaffenburg, but nevertheless have their own records of births, marriages, etc. I would assume that old records listing Aschaffenburg really mean that city and not other villages. Census records, on the other hand, are often inaccurate, especially if the census taker was trying to communicate with immigrants who were not facile with the English language. My greatgrandmother never learned English, so the 1900 census record spelled the family name wrong (Sangle instead of Zengel) and listed my great aunt as Conrad the son instead of Cora (actually Cunigunda) the daughter! 3. Janice, Since you have family from Röllfeld I wonder if you have any Wengerter names in your tree? My mother's family is originally from there.
