    3. Pamela and others, Are there sites that provide history regarding the common migration roots from Bavaria to America? I am curious to learn whether Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam or some others would be the most appropriate for searching. With limited funds, I do not know where to spend my money most efficiently. Thanks, Patrick -----Original Message----- From: Pamela Splettstoesser [mailto:pamela@palettemasters.com] Sent: Monday, September 26, 2005 6:02 AM To: BAVARIA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BAVARIA] Data base in Bermerhaven http://www.deutsche-auswanderer-datenbank.de/English.154.0.html This is a link that could help some of you. :-) It is a data base in Bermerhaven of emigrants in English. 3. Have you tried Cyndi's list and/or Rootsweb.com? They're both excellent. Just put Cyndi's list or Rootsweb in the Google search box. Good luck! 1. Deutsches Auswanderer Haus in Bremerhaven

    3. I posted this note on another list and thought I would share this info here too..... My family and I visited the Deutsches Auswanderer Haus in Bremerhaven this past weekend. The museum opened in August of 2005 and is a wonderful museum, especially for anyone interested the experiences of emigrants. At the entrance, you are assigned the name of an emigrant and also receive an electronic card that is programmed with that person's id (in your preferred language). As you go through the museum, there are many interactive points where the card is read and activates a recorded message for your individual. In this way you can follow that individual from their home in Germany, to boarding the ship, the ocean voyage, their arrival in America, and their eventual destination. My children - 11 and 10 - enjoyed it almost as much as I did. We found it a bit by accident, as I originally drug the family along to Bremerhaven to search the German Emigrants database at the Historical Museum Bremerhaven. The database didn't appear to have much more data that I was already able to access on ancestry.com. Additionally, the museum focused more on the development of the harbor and its use than emigration. On our way to our hotel, we passed the Deutsches Auswanderer Haus and decided to check it out. I'm glad we found it! Here's the link to their web site: http://www.dah-bremerhaven.de/index_flash.html Hopefully some of you will also be able to visit this museum at some point in the future. I highly recommend it. R- --------------------------------- Yahoo! FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click.
