Has anyone know where these places are at, and something about these areas. I have looked for year to try and find Barrastot, Germany, was it a village, county, some part of Germany? Hi Donna: What was your source for the name Barrastot? I checked several sources, but could not find a town/area, etc. with a similar name. Google has only one reference, which looks like a surname. If your source was an American record, it sounds like a corrupted spelling. Perhaps "stot" = "statt" or "stadt". You didn't mention your ancestor's name, but did you already check IGI to see if he is listed there? You also mentioned "Barvaria" and I assume you mean "Bavaria" in southern Germany? If so, have you checked google for information? The archives of this Bavaria list might also provide you with helpful information. Paul C. Miller

Hi Donna, According to maps found at Shtetlseeker, there are some possibilities. I agree that the spelling you have is the likely culprit. I found two close variations for towns in what was once Old Bavaria. See map at http://www.tr62.de/maps/g1.htm<http://www.tr62.de/maps/g1.htm> . The first is Barstadt, located approx. 8 mi. west of Wiesbaden. The second is Borrstadt, located approx. 30 mi. south of Wiesbaden. They are both in that area of Germany shown as Old Bavaria on the map. Shtetlseeker also gives a few other variation possibilities, but these are the closest. You might wish to look at them all at http://www2.jewishgen.org/shtetlseeker/loctown.htm<http://www2.jewishgen.org/shtetlseeker/loctown.htm> Good luck!
