David, A good place to look would be the (American) Church records where your ancestor may have attended (particurlarly at the time of his death). Also try the "death records" at the courthouse in the county that he lived in, and try the local health dept. for a death record or death cerificate. Any of these might narrow the search for your ancestor's birth place, if not providing you with the actual town name. Larry ----Original Message---- Hi, I am new to the list and I am hoping that someone can answer a question for me. My g,great-grandfather, Johann (John) WURZBACHER appears in an 1880 US Census as living in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland. His birthplace is listed as Bavaria. Now I know that Bavaria is a huge area. What would be the best way in finding out what part of Bavaria he came from? I have already checked his Citizenship record and it also states that he was from Bavaria. As you can see, this is not an awful lot of information to go by. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. David
