The Palatinate or the Pfalz was once part of Bavaria. At one time I was lead astray by my 2g grandfather indicating on census and naturalization records that he was from Bavaria. I eventually found that he was from the Pfalz near the Alsatian border. This URL will lead you to the history of the Pfalz and 3 maps of the Pfalz from 1789-1818: http://w3g.med.uni-giessen.de/gene/reg/RHE-PFA/rhein-p.html#gener Good luck in your research.
