    1. [BAVARIA] Regierungsbezirk list?

    3. Buffy, BLENDINGER, FRIEDRICH. "Die Auswanderung nach Nordamerika aus dem Regierungsbezirk Oberbayern in den Jahren 1846-1852." was published in the "Zeitschrift fuer bayerische Landesgeschichte, vol. 27 (1964), pp. 431-487". I don't have this publication, but if no one on this list owns it, you might want to try this approach: A name index for this publication is, among many others, contained on the Family Archive CD # 354, and this CD can be searched for names online at the familytreemaker website (www.familytreemaker.com). However, if you search this site (Internet FamilyFinder) for the surname "Strassel", you will find, that only two persons by that name appear on CD 354, i.e., Anne Marie(a) Strassel and Ernst Strassel. A Peter Strassel is not listed, and therefore you can assume, that Peter - unless his name was Ernst Peter Strassel - is not in the Blendinger publication (but I might be wrong!). << if no one has that book, perhaps they can recommend another one for me to look for him in. >> what I would do first is to find someone who will lookup the above two Strassels (Anne Maria and Ernst) in CD 354 (see for example: http://genweb.net/~gen-cds/cdlist.html for lookup volunteers). If then you have reason to believe, that these persons might be the couple you are looking for and if Blendiger is listed as the source, write (do not use email) to the "Bayerischer Landesverein für Familienkunde" in Munich (they own the Blendinger Publication) and ask them to copy and send the relevant pages (send a SAE and some cash along for postage). If you write them, also ask if a Peter Stassel or other Strassels are contained in their "Auswandererkartei", which is a large unpublished indexed collection of emigrant records they own. HTH and good luck Ralph
