    3. The date will be very useful, since this gives you confirmation when you find more information. Have you done a search of the IGI on the Family History site? This will give you lots of information if you find your ancester there. Did she live long enough to be found on the 1900 census? If so, you will know her year of immigration and you might be able to find a ship list (although this will seldom give a detailed city of origin, but would give you an exact date of arrival) and maybe a Declaration of Intention and Naturalization papers. These often give a more detailed city, depending on the state. Have you checked out the cemetery information? Sometimes good information was saved in their files. Funeral homes may still have an index card as well and the funeral home is listed on your death certificate. I have not been able to find most of this information for several of my ancesters. I keep trying! I have Herman Schmitz and Adelaide Schomaker from Hanover.
