Hi List Members! I am new to the list and to genealogy in general. Two of my family lines are from Bavaria: SPOHRER and MEYERS. Immigration information I obtained recently from "Germans to America" lists these ancestors as: Anton Spohrer, 26, M, Farmer, Bavaria, "000" for village "unknown" Catharina (MEYERS) Spohrer, 27, F, Farmer, Bavaria, village "unknown" Dorothea Spohrer, 29, F, Farmer, Bavaria, village "unknown". (Anton's sister?) All three departed from Havre on board the ship "Empire" and arrived in port of New York, November 19, 1853. (They settled in Pittsburgh, Pa.) I would appreciate any and all suggestions on how to locate the name(s) of the villages. Also, I noticed that a high percentage of the passengers (list runs @5 pages) on board this ship were farmers --- does anyone know what led to all of these farmers leaving Germany (or is this a fairly common distribution of ship passengers)? All suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Cindy Kanny
