Certainly, MILLER is less common than MUELLER / MÜLLER. However, still in the 19th century, many MUELLER / MÜLLER were spelt MILLER in Bavaria. Not mentioning the many MUELLER / MÜLLER who changed their spelling into MILLER, when they arrived in America. But, even nowadays, there are about 20,000 MILLER living in Germany.
