You need to find the same information as to where they might be in the USA. Immigration records and naturalization records are probably a start if you don't know where they went. I was fortunate in finding old postcards addressed to my grandparents from Switzerland which helped trace origins for me and even addresses where they lived while here. Have you looked for emigration or passport information on your side? Ship information could help as to destination. Here is the url for The National Archives, with links to information available on all ports and the appropriate microfilm series. http://www.nara.gov/publications/microfilm/immigrant/immpass.html#portindex http://globalgenealogy.com/list27.htm for "Searching Passenger Lists http://globalgenealogy.com/list27.htm for "Searching Passenger Lists Using the LDS Family History Library Catalog. TheShipsList-L@rootsweb.com is a Ship List and there are volunteers that will do a Germans to America lookup for information (didn't find any for me) http://www.cimorelli.com/safe/shipmenu.htm is a good site for looking up ships to/fr ports and ships that sailed for specific years.
