    1. [BAVARIA] "Stooken"
    2. Richard and Linda Ploch
    3. One of my husband's ancestors, Catherine, came to Texas from Bavaria between 1842 and March of 1846 with her daughter, Mary Ann. Her name appeared on a marriage license in Texas as Catherine Stooken. Years later Mary Ann Stooken appeared as Mary Ann Stokes. Does anyone have any ideas as to a correct spelling for that Bavarian name, Stooken. Also, is it possible Stokes would have been the name coming from Germany? Re: Baizen: Bayern was spelled Bion on the census info for Catherine. Couldn't find that one on the map either. Names were spelled just like they sounded. Thanks, Linda
