I understand that the state of Baden from the 1850's through 1914 required citizens desiring to leave Baden were required to register with the Baden government before leaving Baden. It has lots of good information about all family members, where they lived, etc. It can be a tremendous help in researching ancestors Does anyone know if Bavaria did the same thing - and if so, where can I write to find my elusive Benedickt BRAUN, born about 1846, emigrated 1866-69 to Chicago.
