Need help/advise from list: Have recently found out my gg grandfather worked at the University of Heidelberg. It is thought as a professor. His son Elwood immigrated in about 1865 and went straight to Michigan upon arriving. Am told Elwood is not a real German name. We think that his mother came with him or at least shortly afterwards. Am not sure if she was widowed when she came or he died in MI. Do know that she married a Mr. Schliemann in Michigan. Elwood married Mary Augusta Hoeft. All three families were supposed to have known each other in Germany. Can anyone help at all. Any clues will be greatly appreciated. Was Hiedelberg part of Bavaria during the 1845 to 1865 time frame.
