    3. Dave, Yes, Iowa has 1885 and 1895 state census. You can order from your local Family History Center or perhaps inter-library loan. Neither 1885 or 1895 ask for year of immigration. 1885 does ask if person named was "alien applied for papers" or "alien not applied for papers", but the census taker did not bother to fill it in on my family. Most questions are usual: age, occupation, married or single, where person born and where parents born.
