Dear Listers, I share with the famous musician Bach, the middle name "SEBASTIAN." I do not share his talent, however. He had 16 kids and I had only two. SEBASTIAN is a Bavarian name (also English, among other nationalities). The reason I know this is that my great grandfather, Adam SEBASTIAN, told census takers he was from Bayern. He could have confused the area with the Pfalz Palatinate, I am told. There may be some new members of the List to whom this name is not a mystery. It is to them I am appealing for help. Adam did not arrive in America in 1857 by boat, it appears, for his name is not on any ship lists. Perhaps he swam, or was delivered by angels. He seems to have arrived with possibly a brother, Andreas SEBASTIAN. Adam appears on the 1860 census was Adamus SEBASTIAN. he was a good Catholic man who was born about 1830 in Bavaria. Like many other good Germans of his time, he had lots of kids and died young, leaving his wife to raise them. Tom
