    1. Friendly reminder to future posters on this list.
    2. Norm B.
    3. Hi fellow Bavaria genealogy researchers, - A *friendly reminder* to posters on this list. - The List Owner has made it crystal clear in the past that rollcalls, and specifically the use of "rollcall" in the subject line, is *strictly prohibited*. I mention this because some list members, especially recent joiners, may not know or remember that. That being said, postings such as the recent ones using "rollcall" in the subject line were not necessarily rollcalls (usually a long list of names being researched) since they include additional information for other listmembers to work with in helping the writer. Therefore, the use of "rollcall" in the subject line could have and by rule should have been avoided. Lots of good things are happening on this list, so keep up the interesting requests and replies! Norm B.

    3. Pat, I just started reading "The Lost German Slave Girl" yesterday and find it a wonderful description of the experiences one faced in crossing the Atlantic. My ancestors travel about fifty years before the Slave Girl who came in 1818 to New Orleans, but I'm sure the trips had much in common. Good read! 3. I would like to second Pat's recommendation of Bailey's book, The Lost German Slave Girl. It first drew my interest because it was set in the German community of New Orleans in the 1840's, where most of my immigrant ancestors lived. I felt the book gave me insight into their lives during the immigration process, as well as in 19th century New Orleans. Bailey also presented a great deal of information on the realities of life under the Southern slave laws. The impact they had on the situation of the "German slave girl" of the title were surprisingly complex. The book is a history, rather than fiction, and seems to be well researched and documented. But many of the events are related in such a vivid fashion, the book seems more like a well-plotted novel. 3. Hi Researchers, I'm just starting to look for my JOSEPH PLENDL (1850-1931) in Germany. He immigrated to Dane Co. Wisc. in1869 from Regensburg, Bavaria according to ship record. By 1878 he and wife JOSEPHINE KNABL moved to Plymouth Co. Iowa. According to family members he was adopted by the Plendl family. The oldest member of that family in America came form STRAUBING. Question: Any suggestions where I might find Straubing Church records? I ordered the only Family History Tapes I could find, but they are for directories. Any help would be appreciated. JoAnn

    3. Billie I live just about 10 Miles from Moulton. Most of the major Auglaize Co. communities have historical societies but they don't all have a lot of genealogy information. Moulton is very small so information would possibly be located in Wapakoneta or St. Marys. The libraries in both of these communities have genealogy sections and as Moulton is about halfway between you might want to check with their library staff to see if anything would be available there. Here is the address for the county genealogical society.
