Pamela, I know how much time an patience it takes to redo old photos. I taught myself as well. I think you offer and service in doing this free of charge is admirable. Hi Pamela, I'm so sorry you are being harassed for your very kind offer to help others. I'm a 68 year old grandmother, have been doing genealogical research for 30+ years and I'm ashamed that anyone on this list has read more into your very kind offers of help, than what they are. I have spent many long and tedious hours trying to restore some of my old photographs and think it was so very gracious of you to volunteer to work on others photo's, so you might learn first hand how it is done. You have also had some very good suggestions for help. Please don't ever quit trying to help others, that is what these lists are all about. Peggy in Utah, who would love to find out more about her GG Grandmother who was born in Schillingsfurst, Bavaria. In a message dated 10/1/2005 12:03:52 A.M. Thanks for all the off-list e-mails! I think thanks to Beth Arnott on the list we have found a most excellent candidate for the parentage of my Carl Mahn. She found a baptism at Evangelisch, Gundersweiler, Pfalz, Bayern for Carl Mahn in 1844. This Carl's parents were Peter Maehn and Maria Katherina Zapp. I have also found a New York City marriage record for another child of this couple, Peter, Jr. This gives me even more good feeling about this Carl Maehn being the same as mine, since now I know that at least one child of these two migrated to NYC. Recently there has be quite a lot of controversy over advertising. I will not go into it as everyone has already had to read enough about it. The administration has addressed the issue and that is enough. I would like to say to all of you who have been so supportive and sent words of encouragement to me, Thank you! But lets not overload everyone's email boxes and fuel the fire started by a few. The best way to deal with them is to ignore them. Now, about the fotos! I have had lots of people send me more than one foto to repair...While I know that we would all like to have a perfect foto album, I am just not that quick yet! I have a business and other hobbies that I like to pursue occasionally! (I am still looking for someone with fotos of Splettstoesser's!! :-) ) I really appreciate everyone submitting fotos for me to practice on and they are really helping me learn. But I want to be fair so I am asking that everyone only submit one foto. Choose the one that you cherish the most or the one that is the worst, and I will get to it as soon as possible. Scan it at a high resolution (600dpi) zip it if it is over 10 megs and email it to pamela@burntmail.com . Some of you are sending me photos that are fotocopies not scans. A foto copier does not pick up the features and generally is only black and white ... this is almost impossible for me to do anything with. I can't promise the results will be as good as what you see from a scanned high resolution foto. The next issue I would like to address is payment...several people have offered to pay for my services. While I appreciate this and it is very hard to turn down money! I am doing this to learn at the moment. When I feel that I can do a professional job on every foto then I will offer this service on my Palette Masters website. Again, thank you to everyone for your support and please try to remember not to fuel the fires and overload everyone's mail!! We are all here to find information and get help and it makes it a bit annoying when you have to sift through all the gossip. You can always send me a personal email if you have any questions. My personal email is listed at the bottom of the photo page http://www.palettemasters.com/Roots/ Thanks Everyone! Pamela Splettstoesser www.palettemasters.com <http://www.palettemasters.com/>
Dorothy, You are always an inspiration to me! Thank you so much. I am very appreciative to David also. When I read all the supportive letters it is so nice and helps me to overlook the nasty ones. Though in a way I can understand how this woman is viewing my work as advertising. Because my goal eventually is to be good enough to offer this service on my website where I would charge for it. But I am definitely not to that point yet! My best critic is my Mother! I show her my work and she tells me where I need improvement! :-) One of these days I will get as good as her. I HOPE! Hi! I am brnad new to researching in Bavaria. I was wondering what on earth I can do to get information about an ancestor (last name MAHN) who was born in 1842 in Bavaria. I have no knowledge of the German language, and I don't have much money to spend on professional research. What records exist that may help me? Thanks!

http://www.palettemasters.com/Roots/ Elisha McCullar was a challenge I have to say!! This was a picture of a picture! and besides being out of focus, it was a low resolution picture. But with a lot of manipulation I was about to bring out some features. Thanks to Jesse McCullar for sending in the challenge! <http://www.palettemasters.com/Roots/> Pamela Splettstoesser www.palettemasters.com <http://www.palettemasters.com/>
