Hi Friends, I placed a query before about my g,great-grandfather, Johann E. Wurzbacher that was from Bavaria. I now find in the 1880 census that it lists Saxon as that of his and his parent's birthplace and also that of his wife, Anna Maria RANFT WURZBACHER and her parent's. Can someone please explain this to me. David __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. All in one place. Yahoo! I have ancestors that had the name Yahraus in the U.S. They settled in Pike Co., Ohio in the mid-1800s. Specifically my gggm was Elizabeth Yahraus who married Christoph Hohenstein. She had a brother in Pike Co. named John. There was also a George Yahraus, but I am not yet sure if he were related or not. They indicated in the census that they were from Bavaria. My guess is that the name in Bavaria was probably Jahraus. Is anybody out there researching this family and can anyone confirm that they probably had the name Jahraus in Bavaria? Also if anyone can give me a lead as to where they might have come from in Bavaria I would appreciate it. Larry Wing
The country of origin and date of immigration given in the census is not necessarily correct. You don't know who in the household was giving the information. If an ancestor arrived in America at a young age, he may not remember accurately where he was born or when he arrived. Also, many of our ancestors were illiterate. My greatgrandmother said she was from Hesse, Baden, and Bavaria in three different census. Turns out she was from the Black Forest in Baden. Elenora Green Elenora Green

Hi everyone! The state of Wisconsin has a very large German population. My research interests immigrated there, so I subscribed to the GenWisconsin list in addition to this one. You might consider doing the same as there often are postings which discuss German issues/topics, which aren't forwarded to THIS list. The GenWisconsin list is fairly active (more than some, less than others). If you would like to do this, send an email to: GenWisconsin-L-request@rootsweb.com (You know the routine, put just "subscribe" in the message body) Joanne Parmley

Hello Listers, I have added more mystery photos to my website, Photographs >From The Past. http://www.crosswinds.net/~plantation/index.html Several people have asked if they could place a photo on the site and of course I have been happy to do so. If you have a mystery photo and would like to e-mail me a copy with all the information you may have about it, I would be happy to place it online for you. Take a look. It is always fascinating to wonder who these people are..... Kind regards, Mary Ann --- Mary Ann Allen wallen@pipeline.com The Gathering Place http://sites.netscape.net/murrallen/homepage

Hi everybody! Does anyone know of a good website to obtain a detailed map of Bavaria pre-1900? Thanks for your help! Joanne Parmley
First let me thank all of you who previously helped me identify Essweiler and Bosenbach as the birth towns of my g g grandparents. Here is an update on my progress... I copied what I believe to be Phillipina (JUNG) and Daniel DICK's siblings from LDS films 0415694 and 0415778. However, there appears to be much more information on these birth records than I had expected. Would anyone be interested in trying to help by translating the contents of this birth record I have scanned? WARNING - High Resolution Image: http://home.att.net/~rascalz/Images/PhilippDick_lds_0415695.jpg Please let me know what you think. Thanks again friends! Nancy M. Atkinson rascalz@worldnet.att.net
I have just recently subscribed to this list and for a few days only looked at postings to get an idea about the types of ?'s asked here. My search is for my Gr-grandparents who immigrated from Bavaria in the 1890's. They were John Lenard Zimmerman/n? of Gschwendt (?) Bavaria, also have a note that he may have been from Nurenburg. He may have been Johan when he came in 1890. She was Margareta Ertel who was from Rosenberg, Bavaria and came to the US in 1891. They were married in Minnesota, later moving w/several children to Sauk Co. WI. I too have had a difficult time finding the ship info - after the Germans to America listings I have access to. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Dear list Member, I'm researching the name SICKMÜLLER / SICKMILLER / SICKMULLER. The early appearance of this name is at the Grabfeld Oberfranken area in the 16th century. The name also appears in the Steigerwald area with dense populations of Sickmüllers at and around the Aurach Valley. In the 17th Century the Sickmüller name appears at Nussloch near Heidelberg. Philipp Sickmüller emigrated around 1835 to Galion / Ohio and it looks like he is father of all American Sickmiller. I keep a large file of SICKMÜLLER / SICKMILLER / SICKMULLER and looking to exchange with other researchers. Waiting for response Peter Sickmüller / Lautertal / Germany
Looking for ancestors of Veronica VON DUER who was born in Bavaria in 1834. She married Simon STEIDL in the late 1850s in Paris and came to America where they eventually made their home in Belle River, Douglas County, Minnesota. On her death certificate, her father's name is listed as Joseph HEIER. Perhaps she was married to someone else before marrying Simon. Jane Nordby Jamared@aol.com
Hi, I would like to hear from anyone connected to Waldman(n) family. My great grandparents were Andreas (Friederick) Waldmann born 16 Jan 1824 in Bavaria and his wife, Friedericka Constantin(e) of Baden, who was ten years his junior. They moved to NY in 1850's and settled in NJ around 1869. My goal would be to find a place in Germany that the family came from. They may be from Bernhach, Wurtemberg... as obit of Fred Waldmann born 1832 states he was from there and he is believed to be a relative. Anyone researching there???? Appreciate any thoughts, Dave Waldmann Dhwaldmann@aol.com
Dear List Members, I am searching for a WAGNER family, who are said to have come from Hirschfeld, Bavaria. My great grandfather, JOHANN (JOHN) WAGNER, came to the U.S. about 1874. He settled in Perkins Twp., Erie County, Ohio. There were WAGNER relatives who lived in Detroit, Michigan (or approximate area) also. JOHANN (JOHN) WAGNER'S date of birth is about 17 June 1847. I know nothing about his parents or siblings. There appears to be 2 towns named Hirschfeld in Bavaria. One is in the Landkreis of Schweinfurt (Unterfranken). The other is in the Landkreis of Kronach (Oberfranken). I would like to write to the churches or civil offices to see if they have any record of JOHANN WAGNER'S birth or any family records concerning him. If anyone knows anything about the WAGNER family and/or could provide me with addresses to where I could write, I would certainly appreciate any assistance. Thank you! Marcia

Keep checking back to The Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild they will eventually get it up if it came through NY.
