    2. Richard, I can't help you, but your grandmother's name caught my eye, having the name Babette. My grnadmother's middle name was Babette. She was from the Nurnberg area and a Roman Catholic. I thought it strange, since it sounds French. Do you kinow of any history of the name? Thanks, Linda Los Angeles

    3. I recently bought a mid 1700's Bible at an antique store, only because it has a lot of German handwritten family information in it - and I would like to find the family that should have this Bible. I couldn't bear it sitting, being ruined. ... If someone can & is willing to decipher the handwritten German script (names) for me, please email me privately and I will scan the pages to you. The entire Bible is written in German. ... Once I know the names listed, I can post for an owner. Thanks! ...Donna (Ohio, USA) dstfelix@erinet.com

    1. [BAVARIA] Postage Exchange
    2. Marianne Cook
    3. Hi Folks, I am new to the list, and about to post a subject which is off topic - sincere apologies beforehand. I have been collecting stamps. No great stash to speak of. Just a collection to say "Hey ... I have a stamp from there!" Well I was wondering if there were any kind folks who might be willing to exchange with me one brief letter/postcard from their beautiful homeland in order to A) exchange the postage, and B) get back to the wonderful art of handwritten communication. Who knows what the outcome could be? Perhaps wind up being penpals. OK ... I'll slow down, and try not to have such high expectations. If this sounds like a small good deed to you, and you'd even consider my offer ... please email me off the list for specifics. I again apologize for my off-topic post. Good evening and Happy Holidays to you all. Marianne Cook Mississauga, Ontario, Canada http://www.geocities.com/heartland/orchard/1804

    1. [BAVARIA] RE: IGI
    2. Hi everyone, Has anyone searched the IGI for their Bavarian ancestors and been successful? I am wondering how I can get batch #'s for my interests (HAGEN, UTTENDORFER, SPANGEL) in the Mitterhausen/Gerlstetten area of Bavaria. There is a great English site for batch #'s for England (I have English interests as well), but I haven't been able to find anything similar for Bavaria or Germany in general. I would appreciate it if SKS could help me out with this. Thanks, Joanne Parmley

    1. [BAVARIA] SOLFERMOSER
    2. Jo Broadston
    3. My great-grandfather was Lorenz SOLFERMOSER. He was born 26 June, 1858 and said he was from Boverin, Germany. He emigrated as a single man to the US in ca. 1879. We can't locate any geographical areas named Boverin. Could Boverin mean Bayern? Has anyone heard the name Solfermoser anywhere? Does anyone have any suggestions as to alternative spellings for this surname? I have looked in Germans to America regarding immigration information; he's not listed here. Any suggestions on where else to look? Thanks!

    3. SCHUG; Bamberg, Bavaria, BAY,DEU; 1850- I am researching the SCHUG family from Bamberg, Bavaria. Would like to know the father and mother of the following children who are all siblings. All these brothers immigrated to the US, however, John (maybe Johann) returned to Bamberg and died there 24 June 1909. The known sisters were Mary SCHUG b. before 1850 never married; Ruth SCHUG; Elizabeth SCHUG; and M. Maria SCHUG a nun who worked at the English Institute, Tafelhof Street # 3, Nurnberg. I can be contacted at mikeschug@hotmail.com or Mike Schug, 501 W. Baldwin St., Paragould, AR 72450-5145. Telephone 870-239-3518. "Mike Schug" <jschug@grnco.net>

    2. Arthur H Laube
    3. My GGGGgrandfather George NEIMAN/NEUMAN/NYMAN born about 1736, probably in Germany, loved set back, sour, buckwheat pancakes. Where did he live? George NEIMAN came to the American colonies about 1768, He lived in Philadelphia County and later Conewago Township, York County, Pennsylvania. A son George lived in Cordorus Township, York County. This second George and his son Jacob and their spouses are buried in a cemetery at Ilesboro, in Hocking County, Ohio. Were set back, sour, buckwheat pancakes common to certain areas - or were they not known in Germany? They were made like rye bread. Was rye bread common in only certain states or kingdoms of Germany - in the 1700's?
