    1. Re: [BAVARIA] Wehrstammbuch
    2. Georg Paulus
    3. "Wehrstammbuch" and "Wehrpass" have to be considered together: The "Wehrpass" keeps record of the military carreer of a soldier, giving information on military degrees, and on the military units, to which the soldier belonged to. The "Wehrpass" was kept at the military unit, and moved with it. The "Wehrstammbuch" basically contained the same information as the "Wehrpass", but was kept at the central military administration (The "Wehrstammbuch" did not move with the soldier or the unit.) I hope this gives some explanation. 1. [BAVARIA] family books
    2. Frances Almstrom
    3. Hi, Many (maybe even many, many) months ago I came across a reference to a resource that was roughly translated into "family books". I understand that these are available at many archives, and essentially are pedigrees of given families, often going back centuries. I believe that they were produced by parish priests. What I need to know is the actualy German name for these resources. So, if anyone out there knows what I am talking about, and knows the correct name, would you please email same to me, directly, at franalm@yahoo.com Please don't write and ask me for more information, as I have given all I can remember, and only wish I had more to give. Many thanks for any assistance. Frances Almstrom franalm@yahoo.com Tucson, Arizona __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. 1. [BAVARIA] What is a Bavarian Krippe?
    2. Hi all, Having known little about my Bavarian roots until recently, I am wondering, what is a Bavarian Krippe? Some type of ornamental/religious decoration for Christmas? I really should have known I was Bavarian all along, considering my fondness for Bavarian cream filling........:-) Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this for me, Joanne

    3. I have a copy of the naturalization certificate of one family member and it shows nothing helpful. You need to find a copy of their letter of intent. That is the document with lots of info. But remember they may file a letter of intent one place and get their naturalization certificate in a different state. 1. [BAVARIA] Finding Naturalization Records
    2. Dear Gary, The best way I've found to find naturalization records is through the 1867 voters registration. If you know the county that they were in, in that year, look them up on the registration. If they voted, and if they were naturalized then they probably did, then in one of the columns it should tell the county they were naturalized in. Write to that county and request the records. Good luck! -Tanya in Austin, TX

    2. I have the same question as Linda. My ancestor, Frederick Pfeiffer (Peiffer) came from Bavaria to Pennsylvania in 1860, probably with his wife Margaretta. Census data indicated he was "naturalized" in 1861. Maybe they came in through Philly. I do know that Fredericks brother "sponsored" him to come over. So, the questions I have are: 1. Building on Linda's questions, how can I find his Naturaliation records? 2. What is the best approach to finding records of Fredericks mother and father in Bavaria? Would the naturalization records, if found, help here? Gary M. Peiffer Glen Rock, PA

    2. Linda A. McCashland
    3. Hi. I am trying to locate the naturalization record for Christian BAITHER that came to America from Bavaria, Germany around the 1860's. I haven't been able to find a ship record for him so I don't know what port he came in to. I believe he came straight to Franklin Co., IN. Where would the naturalization record for him be? What information would this tell me? Thanks, Linda McCashland inker@si-net.com Liberty, IN

    1. [BAVARIA] Village location?
    2. Jane T.
    3. Records of the naturalization of my ancestor in 1849 show that he was from Bavaria. Subsequently, I learned that the name of his village was Birkenhoerdt, which is roughly half way between a straight line from Saarbruecken and Karlsruehe, altho slightly north of it. The geoserver says that it is in the Rheinhessen-Pfalz. So does that mean that it's in the Pfalz nowadays, no longer in Bavaria?...And I've never heard of Rheinhessen-Pfalz, only Rheinland-Pfalz. I take it that these are two different entitites? Can someone tell me where I should write to find records of births or baptisms of those from Birkenhoerdt (I guess it would be the same for Bollenborn which is less than a mile away?). My ggmo was Lutheran in the US, but I don't know what religion her father was in Germany; so it'd be good to have addresses for both Catholic and Evangelische archives. Thanks in advance. 3. ****************************** The Seybert family from Waldfischbach, Rhein, Germany loved sour set back buckwheat pancakes.
