    1. [BAVARIA] POPPENHEIM (PAPPENHEIM)
    2. Looking for information on Lewis POPPENHEIM (PAPPENHEIM). He was born in Stanheim in Hessen on the 11th of November 1750. He came to the U.S. in 1776. I was told this was near Bavaria. His son John was born same place on 20th day of October in 1776. Do not know who his mother was. Also family history is that there was a Pappenheim Castle in the family. Sure hope someone can help me with this family. Thank you, Evelyn http://www.geocities.com/heartland/flats/2418/main.html

    3. Hello! Wondering if there was ever such a place called "Himmenthal" Bavaria... I have a story that says my ancestors are from there, but I cant find any reference to that place and am wondering if maybe it is a wrong spelling and what the real city might be. Thanks! 2. Bob Liebl
    3. I have not seen this on the lists this year but the City of Nurnberg has this available each year. It show the city zentrum and several points of interest. THese are live pictures from Nurnberg so when you click on any of the pictures it may take a few seconds to open. You can even control the camera to zoom in on a spot in the picture. It is much better to view these when it is night time in Germany. So enjoy this site. It's one of the better ones. http://www.christkindlesmarkt.de/index_e.html Ein Frohe Weihnachten! 2. Joanne Barrett
    3. New to list, Have been told my family possibly had its roots in Bavaria due to the manner in which they pronounced their name. When first arriving in this country they pronounced their name as though spelled it Linebhurger. Have no idea where they came from in Germany and would like to have some input with someone better informed than I. Thank you, JoAnne Lineberger Barrett

    2. To whom it may concern: I'm searching for some of my German families and it has lead me to Sulzheim, Nuedlingen & Wulfershausen. The Morman's don't seem to have church records for those towns. How do I get access to records for those towns? thanks, Debbie

    2. K. Holshey
    3. Hi! I'm very new to this list and to research in Germany and hope the following question isn't annlying to more experienced German researchers. I'm researching the surname Merkel. I have a George Merkel born in Wirbenz, Germany in December of 1828. This information is not verified. I've found a George Andreas Merckel bpatized in Evangelische, Alsenz, Pfalz, Bayern in September of 1828 but I don't know enough about German town names to understand what I've found. Can someone explain to me what Alsenz, Pfalz, Bayern means and whether the name Merkel is a common one in Bavaria? Kathy

WHAT'S DIFFERENT II. WHERE DO I FIND THE ITEMS I USE NOW III. SITE MAP ============================================= I. WHAT'S DIFFERENT ============================================= The redesign incorporates the "tab" style used by many popular informational websites, including our sister site MyFamily.com. We have divided our site into HOME, SEARCH, LEARN, SHARE, SAVE, and SHOP tabs. There is also a HELP tab represented by a question mark "?". The content is mostly the same, but it should be much easier for you to get to it. We have added the TODAY@ANCESTRY area off the HOME tab. Here you will be able to find the all the information that is updated daily on our site. The SEARCH tab holds all our genealogical and historical databases and the ADVANCED SEARCH. You still will be able to search off the homepage, but you will want to explore the SEARCH tab to refine your researching. The LEARN tab holds all our self-learn and non-database resources. You will find research tips and guides that are necessary to start or advance your research. Our expert help and columns are also located here. The SHARE tab is the perfect area for you to collaborate with other family history researchers. Our most popular online applications like the Surname Communities and the Message Boards are located here. The SAVE tab is where you will go to record and preserve your family history research. Our Online Family Tree is located here. The SHOP tab is where you will go to purchase the world's finest software, books and other products that help you bring your family together. ============================================= II. WHERE DO I FIND THE ITEMS I USE NOW ============================================= The great news about the redesign is that the most used Ancestry links are still on the homepage, just ONE click away. Additionally some of the more popular items have been brought up to the front page for easier access. SEARCH - same place, on the homepage right up in the center; ANCESTRY DAILY NEWS - same place, on the homepage on the right side; NEW DATABASES - same place, on the homepage on the upper right side; POPULAR DATABASES (SSDI, Census Records, Ancestry World Tree) - on the homepage right below the search area; NEW SITE FEATURES - on the homepage below the search area. ============================================= III. 2. W. David Samuelsen
    3. It's almost Christmas! That means.... two problems...only you can solve.... 1. Newbies Annual influx of newbies who got their computers first time and very excited to try right away. No such as a question is stupid enough. Remember that newbies frequently do not have full access to resources yet and it is up to all of us already on the lists to guide them to resources and to help answer their queries. 2. Attempts to unsubscribe for holidays a. There are taglines in every other message (at the bottom) that have the address set up and ready for you. Just click and send. b. For those who get theirs in Digests, the address is located just below the index of messages. This address do not show up in individual messages. c. Bungled attempts - do not try to help - leave it to the listowner (ME!) to take care of. 3. Virus messages Only the listowner do this. I will take care of newbies on this matter. W. 1. [BAVARIA] LAUMEISTER
    2. Katie O'Connor
    3. Hello! Looking for information regarding the LAUMEISTER surname. I have bits and pieces from 4 separate LAUMEISTER families, but cannot find where they connect. The first set includes Lorenz b. 1616-1672 and his family that lived in Steinmark Unterfraken Bavaria until about 1750. The second set is Josef Laumeister born before 1780 and his family including Johann and Stefan. They were from Momlingen Bavaria. There were a whole bunch of Laumeisters that settled in York County PA in the late 1700s and they too came from Bavaria but I do not know which parts. Another family, related to most living Laumeisters in the US, were brothers Francis William and William Frank born in the 1820s. My own family begins with John Anthony Laumeister who married Mary Ann Hartman in Bavaria and had sons Leonard b. 1824 and Lewis b. 1822. My family moved to Stockton CA in the late 1840s early 1850 and lived there until about 1950. My great grandfather Herman Aloysuis was born in Stockton in 1859. ANY information regarding this surname would be GREATLY appreciated as I know I am so close to a link but just dont see how they all connect! Many thanks, Katie O'Connor peanuts4me@jps.net

    3. Thank you so much. We all need to remember that among the listreaders are many people on fixed incomes, or with disabilities that don't make it easy to run out to the store and buy another reference book. And those who can buy what they want still have to be careful because after it is bought, it has to be kept someplace! (The last is a moan from a year-old genealogist sitting at her computer desk surrounded by references and notebooks that don't yet have a place to go.) Ceal ----- Original Message ----- From: "W.
