Hi, I am trying to find the ancestors of my Great Grandmother. (Anna) Barbara HAHN, born 19 Apr 1859 in Vestenbergsgreuth, Bavaria, Germany. Her parents were Mathias and Margaretta (Muller) HAHN. She came to America in 1875 with her Mother, her Father must have died since I can't find any trace of him. They were of Lutheran Faith. Any help would be appreciated. I understand that Vestenbergsgreuth is a village in central Franconia, NW of Nuremberg. Does anyone know where I can write for information on this family? Bev, bfrancque@delphi.com
My great grandfather, Andrew SCHUG, had a sister, M. Maria SCHUG, who was a nun. She wrote letters to the family in America from "English Institute, Nurnberg, Tafelhof Street #3". One of the letters that I have is dated 1911. Does anyone know anything about the English Institute? Thanks Mike SCHUG
Joanne and Larry, Also, remember that the online index does not include all individuals. I found the christening records of some of my German ancestors in the online index and later found out in the microfilm there were birth records too. I am looking for anyone with the surname Ertel in their ancestry. Mine was from a town in Bavaria - Rosenberg I believe. Margaretta? Ertel who married in Minnesota a John Lenard Zimmerman/n Thanks for any help -- Jill Also a suggestion about FHC records. The only way you will find family records in the IGI is if they have been entered by someone who was researching those family members. The records in which you might find the families you are researching would be in birth, marriage and death, church records, directories, census records etc that have been filmed in their entirety(sp?) for the Mormon records in Salt Lake. These can be ordered to be seen at the FHC near you!

Looking for any info on family of Louise (Elisabetha) Bauer, Gundlitch, Marienweiler,b. 12 Jan 1882, daughter of Margaretha Bauer. I have no further information on this family and ancesters. She travelled to United States about 12 yrs of age with a cousin or aunt(?)
Thanks to all who replied to my inquiry about Berchestgaden. BEST WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR Richard
Hello Joanne, I am unsure about online sources, you may have to do the "leg work" at the FHC, but consider this: When you look up the source for the IGI listings at the FHC, there is usually a "Film or Batch #". If this is a Film #, you just order the corresponding microfilm (yippee!). But my experience has been that the numbers I were looking for turned out to be "Batch #'s" to which there is no reference to in the Locality or other searches. After much struggle (to make a long story short), it turns out that these "Batch #'s" must be converted into "Film #'s", then the appropriate films can be ordered. To do this, at the FHC, look up the "Batch #" on the "Microfiche of Batch Numbers". This will give you the film # to order. NOTE: The assistants at the FHC may not be aware of this proceedure, so be understanding & patient, but persistant. The Microfiche of Batch #'s is a set of microfiche, and might be misplaced somewhere in the drawers. Best Wishes, Larry Flinner Ohio, USA ----Original Message---- Hi everyone, Has anyone searched the IGI for their Bavarian ancestors and been successful? I am wondering how I can get batch #'s for my interests (HAGEN, UTTENDORFER, SPANGEL) in the Mitterhausen/Gerlstetten area of Bavaria. There is a great English site for batch #'s for England (I have English interests as well), but I haven't been able to find anything similar for Bavaria or Germany in general. I would appreciate it if SKS could help me out with this. Thanks, Joanne Parmley

Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone might give me some tips/suggestions. After you find the Bavarian town and the church is gone (burnt to the ground), where do you look for records? My time period is the 1890s. By any chance, were the Catholic churches of that time required to send copies of their records/family books to any other church locations? Would there also be civil records at another location? Thanks for any help provided, Joanne

Does anyone know what kreis or province claimed Bonn in 1796 and Koblenz in 1854? I'm trying to find the correct area to write for records. Merry Christmas everyone!
Merry Christmas All, I am looking for the birthplace of Christopher Rager who according to Obituaries and most census records was born in Bavaria. One census record however lists him as coming from Baden. He was born in Apr. 1824 and emigrated to the US in 1850 where he worked at his butcher trade in Chicago until 1858 when he moved to what is now Oceana County, MI. His death record shows his mother to be Anna Brinie and his father Conrad. His sisters Obituary however shows the fathers name as John. At the time of his death in 1897 he was survived by a brother John in Sweden, a sister in Germany and a sister Magdalenna in Oceana Co., MI. The German white pages show at least 44 Ragers in the area around Bisingen, which is east of Munich, with very few in any other area in Germany. Does anyone have a contact in that area?? His family in Michigan was Catholic, but I don't know if he was raised Catholic. So far I have not found any LDS records from Bisingen. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Art Grumm, Montague, MI
