Hello Phyllis, I am not from the Waldmuenchen area, but my wife has ancestors there. You can find more about them on my website: http://www.m.shuttle.de/rusch/BLF/R-1670.html As for the church books of that area, they are all kept in the archives of the Diocese of Regensburg. The church books of the Waldmuenchen parish go back to 1582. I have narrowed my serach area down and was hoping somone on the list could offer some advice on my next step. From the information, I have, I would appreciate some tips. Of course if anyone is researching these surnames in this area, please let me know. Adam T. HEPP my GG Grandfather (immigrated to Troy, NY) in 1881 with wife Anna Marie (VOELKER) HEPP and five sons (US names of Conrad, Vincent, Charles, John Henry and John). They were from Wuerzburg(sp?), Bavaria in Germany. Adam was born in 1846, Anna in 1848. I do know Adam had a father (my GGG Grandfather) named Adam HEPP but have no additional information and but know his mother's name was Margueritte KHOL (? on spelling on both names as death certificate is very hard to read). Anna Marie VOELKER's father was Nicholas VOELKER but I have no additional information on him and none on his wife. The parents of both Adam T. HEPP and Anna Marie VOELKER are belived to have remained in GERMANY. Thanks Don Hepp
Am I the only one who thought that the recent rash of posts (discussing a certain attribute of the German character which will remain nameless because we're not supposed to talk about it) was fun?? Besides, the listowners' comments simply prove the point. LOL Father Chuck Schwartz
Hi, Today I found out there's a German phone directory online that's in English. If anyone has the url for that site, please send it to me privately. thanks, Debbie

Try "The Celtic Empire" by Peter Berresford Ellis. If you are looking for a nice vacation to do this research go to Wuerzburg. The museum at the Kappele has a good display of the artifacts of the early inhabitants of the region. I am researching the town of Hachenburg, Germany. I am trying to find out the history of this town. My gmother was a Hackenberg. Her family was Prince Peter Hachenberg from this area, and also King Wilhelmo Hachenberg from Vienna. Johann Peter Hachenberg came to USA. His brother stayed and inherited the estate and title. I am stuck. Any help would be appreciated. Has anyone ever heard of this town or the names? Thank you, Barbara Carswell BCarswell@aol.com
Hartung is an old German word for "January". Probably your ancestor Johann or whatever had to pay his duty in January, while the other Johann in the same village paid in the fall and was therefor called Johann Herbst (= fall). This is a common way how family names were created. I am searching for information on Ludwig BERKER, born in Bavaria in 1850 He and his wife Caroline SCHNEIDER emigrated to the USA in 1895. Would you have advice as to how I can find out where in Bavaria they came from? Your input is much appreciated. Thank You! Regine Brindle bbrindle@netusa1.net
I did not have your address until you sent this response to me. I sent an email to Bavaria-L mail list and to one individual in Bavaria, whose address is not yours, who had responded to a query on the list. Maybe you need to contact Bavaria-L to have your address removed. adlyons@attglobal.net wrote: > please delete my name from distribution list >

Hey fellow Bavarians, actually I need the help of a Bavarian History buff. In writing my family history story I would like to include some history on the ancient Germanic tribes of the area. Does anyone know which tribe inhabited the area of Oberfranken before the Franks? My precise area is around the town of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge, east of Bamberg and Bayreuth, just west of Eger. Any help would be great. I have checked various books but can't seem to find a dividing line. Thanks for your time, Gerald Kisabeth ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
