The following Banns were posted at Nuenberg between 3 Nov 1898 and 13 Nov 1898: Josef Meier, catholic, b. 27 Sep 1868 at Bernhof, single, resides in Munich, from Bernhof and Strassberg, son of Johann Meier, deceased and Katherine Norgauer. Josef married Maria Pfahler, protestant, b. 31 Jan 1867, Pfaffenhausen, single, now from Munich, father Fredrich Pfahler, Rottenmeister, mother Barbara Huttinger. Any information on these families would be appreciated. Bernhof was located in what is now Grafenwohr.
Thanks to all for their responses. Maybe the reason I was so sure that there was a Lum in Bavaria is that I remember there is a Lum in Michigan. Dear Listers, Two of you have already notified me of the listing of a man named Jacob Schiedt who was listed on the FTM people finder. I have seen him, too. But, he is too young, having been born in the next generation or so. What I need to do is find out where this guy came from. The last name is too odd to be widespread (or so I am told by a German lady from Transylvania). As for the ie or ei spelling, I will have to take your word for it. My great grandmother, b 1841, had Schiedt for a maiden name. This was recorded on her death certificate in Louisville,KY, in 1912 by her son. Thank you for your consideration. Tom
Dear Father Chuck, Some of us Krauts may be too stubborn to forgive you. I was just in Louisville, KY, at St. Brigid Church (I live near LA) getting help from the priest there, who was a kinder, gentler Kraut, and who helped me a great deal. Now, if anyone has knowledge of one Jacob Schiedt (pronounced Sheet) b. about 1820 in Bavaria, I would love to know about it. I recognize that it is an impossible search, but I am too stubborn to give it up. Tom
Mea Culpa Mea Culpa MEA MAXIMA CULPA Humble abject apologies to the listmanager for accusing him of something he did not do. Recently I posted a message that should have gone on the Baden-Wurttemburg lists. For those who are curious, there was a line on B-W about "Stubborn krauts" the we were having a lot of fun with until the listmanager put out the cease and desist order/ again, my apologies to the listmanager of Bavaria-L Chuck Schwartz
Mea culpa mea culpa mea MAXIMA CULPA I apparently posted something to the Bavaria-L that should have gone to the Baden-Wurttemburg-L. My humble abject apologies to the listowner/manager for accusing him of something he did not do. In any event for those of you who are curious, there was line entitled "Stubborn Krauts" on the B-W group that was getting to be fun until the listowner/manager put out the Cease and Desist order. Again, apologies upon apologies Chuck Schwartz
Is there anybody on this list who researches a protestant / calvinist OPPENHEIMER line from the Palatinate and / or Bavaria? Together with a friend of mine, I have researched such an OPPENHEIMER family back to the 17th century (first appearance: 1648 at Niederfloersheim and Bloedesheim), but never came across anybody else researching that same line. There are numerous other OPPENHEIMER lines, but they are all of Jewish religion. We would be delighted to find somebody to share our Christian OPPENHEIMER line with. Regards Georg Paulus, Bavaria
There is , however, an Ulm as well as a Neu Ulm in Bavaria. Could it be that your letters have been transposed somewhere along the line from Ulm into Lum? -----Original Message----- From: D A welser <welserda@worldnet.att.net> To: BAVARIA-L@rootsweb.com <BAVARIA-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, January 09, 2000 12:18 AM Subject: [BAVARIA] Welser >Welser, Lum or Oberlum Bavaria > >I have tried the usual sources and although I would have told you there is a >Lum, I have not been able to find either of the above cities, towns, >villages. Hello: I have a family member who emigrated to the US about 1750 and tradition says he and his family were from the "Duchy of Sieg-Leey, about 100 miles from Lake Konstanz". Can anyone tell me where this is, and also, where I might write for Reformed Church records, depending on where it is? Thank you . Bernard Young

Hello to All, Today is my first posting to this list. Does anyone have knowledge of, or a connection to; Franz X. ACHATZ, married Teresa BIEBEL in 1870. Franz died in 1875 and Teresa remarried. Her second husband was Michael KOECK. They, & her daughters, Amelia & Catherine emigrated in 1881, settling in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. I would really appreciate any responses! Here is the URL: http://www.teleauskunft.de/ When you get to the page - click on 'T' (Telefonbuch) - which will bring you to a screen offering you a choice of languages. Click on English. I don't know why this address didn't print in "black" before. I'm trying again to see if I can get it through. If you hit on the very pale pink in the previous note it will come right on. http://www.telefonbuch.de/NSAPI/Anfrage?AKTION=zeSuchseiteTelefonbuch&SPRACHE=EN&SESSIONID=01809a2e853877b6940000f691&VERZEICHNIS=1&BUAB=BUNDESWEIT&H_NUTZUNGSBEDINGUNGEN=TRUE Priscilla Haines wrote: > http://www.telefonbuch.de/NSAPI/Anfrage?AKTION=zeSuchseiteTelefonbuch&SPRACHE=EN&SESSIONID=01809a2e853877b6940000f691&VERZEICHNIS=1&BUAB=BUNDESWEIT&H_NUTZUNGSBEDINGUNGEN=TRUE > > This is it. If there's a German phone directory online that is in English, I think it should be posted to the list, as others likely will be interested as well. Certainly, I am interested. Welser, Lum or Oberlum Bavaria I have tried the usual sources and although I would have told you there is a Lum, I have not been able to find either of the above cities, towns, villages. This is one of the placenames associated with my branch of the family. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Dave Welser Edgewater, MD
