Thanks to everyone who responded re: my Essweiler Marriage record translation request. I'm going to try and apply what I have learned towards translating another marriage record I found that may or may not contain an ancestor of mine. Hopefully I can apply something I have learned from my DICK and JUNG marriage record. I am looking for assistance. Teresa Killenbeck/Smith was born 1849 in Rombady , Baiern, Deutchland. According to her burial card. Has anyone else ran across this location. I at first thought this could be rombach. Teresa married Joseph Kremsrieter 1874-1876. Before their marriage she had a son John Smith. In every record Kremsrieter has a different spelling. Any help would be appreciated.

000113 1250 I am new to this list to search the name of WEINREICH (WEINREIS once in the U.S. for a generation or two). I'm not totally certain of the first name, but perhaps JOSEPH. They came from Southern Germany (Probably Bayern) somewhere mid to late middle 1800s. Any information would be very much appreciated. My grandfather, born in Wisconsin and raised in this country changed his name to PETER WEINRIES no longer using WEINREICH, although he grew up with WEINREICH. His family moved to South Dakota in the late 1800s and he was a homesteader in North Dakota, beginning in 1906. Much of this recent history is in my grandmother's book, "A Note On The Teakettle!" WEINREICHs were Catholic when they came to this country. Thanks for any help you can give. John Schmeling

Hi Nancy: I am also trying to find the German roots of my ancestor, Jakob Jung who came to America in the mid-17 hundreds. The curious thing about your Jung-Dick marriage and what caught my eye is the fact that my Jung ancestor was closely connected to the Dirck/Derck family and intermarried after both families moved to Quebec in 1790's. In the records of the Gilead Lutheran Church at Center Brunswick, N.Y. the Dirck family gets confused with a Dick family who lived there at the same time. Have you run into this transposition in your research? Dick/Dirk are not that far apart in some of the old writing. Anyhow, if you have a Jacob Young in your files, let me know, and if you need any info on the Dick family from NY State I'll look it up for you. Thanks Bernard Young
Hi all, I think I've taken care of everyone who asked up to this point. Have to log off for most of the rest of the day, but will get back with it this evening or tomorrow morning if there are more. I appreciate your patience in this. Thanks, Joanne
Hi Peggy, Nope. Sorry, no URL. I went back and looked and this is actually a reference document from the Library of Congress. For all of you who I sent this to, it should say this at the top when you open it up. If it doesn't PLEASE let me know, 'cause I might have sent you the wrong one by mistake (I have a lot of these). BTW, I've had a TREMENDOUS response on this. I'm glad! Hope it helps some of you out in the future. Take care, Joanne PS. If you want it Peggy, let me know :-)
Hi all, A good friend of mine just sent me an attachment (which may originally have been from the National Archives). I had to open it with my Aladdin Expander (probably because I am AOL), but it was worth it! It is a long text (but came through in Notepad) which has specific info on U S immigration and passenger lists. To do with when the US govt. began to require passenger lists and various laws that were enacted in regard to this, mainly to gather information and protect the welfare of arriving immigrants. Even talks about how far back the National Archives have baggage lists for. It talks about German immigration through Canada. Dr. Glazier's work in progress on German immigrants 1850-1890 ("Germans to America"), St. Alban's, Filby's "Passenger and Immigration Lists Index". Did you know that 40% of Germans who immigrated to Canada were ultimately destined for the US? It discusses specific info on volume references for US immigration (not only for Germans). It also discusses what is available at the National Archives on this subject. Very informative. I will definitely be taking notes from it for when I trek up to my local NARA. If anyone would like to email me privately, I will be happy to forward this attachment to you. It is only a 1 minute download and you might not have to use the expanding utility like I did if you are non-AOL. Just wanted to make the offer because I feel it really is useful information for those of us researching ancestors who immigrated into the US. Joanne
Can anyone help me translate any portions of this marriage record from Essweiler, Bavaria, Germany? I was so excited to have found it on microfilm. I believe it to be the marriage record of my ancestors Philippina JUNG and Daniel DICK. I'm just curious what other mysteries I might uncover by being able to read German. Unfortunately, the microfilm quality of the first page wasn't too good. But I've also included a link here to the second page which is of much better quality. If the images need to be smaller, just let me know. WARNING: High Resolution Images! http://home.att.net/~rascalz/Images/DickJungMarriage.jpg http://home.att.net/~rascalz/Images/DickJungMarriage_pg2.jpg Thanks to all in advance. I love this stuff! Would you also happen to know if the Catholic Churches in Rehau, Germany have archived their information? The surnames of my father's family (ROTHEMUND, ROTERMUND, ROTHERMUND, ETC) come from that area. Thanks!! Dear PSC, It is one my misfortunes that there were two distinct Sebastian families in KY. Mine was Bavarian and got off the boat (or out of the water) in 1857. The other Sebastian family was English and had been in America at least 100 years before that time. You have located the English Sebastians in Breathitt Co., KY. Thanks for thinking about my problem. Tom
Hi. Is anyone researching the above family, religion - Roman Catholic, came to USA c. 1850? Specifically Nicholas (Niklaus or variation), born c. 1800, wife Margaretha? thanks, Tim
DUHHHHH!!!!!! Can't believe I did that! Once again, not enough sleep and it is beginning to show. Time to log off, I suppose. It is: http://www.maxpages.com/ourlostfamily Sorry! (and thanks for pointing this out :-) Joanne (I am going to bed even though it is 3:34 PM here.)
Hi, I just happened across this today while doing a search. I've never seen it before. This seems to have a lot of stuff for people of German ancestry, but it has info on other nationalities and general as well as some good links. You might check it out. Joanne
<< Does anyone know if the Catholic Church Records at the Catholic Archives in Regensburg has been microfilmed, and, if so, where to locate them? >> The church books of all parishes belonging to the bishopric Regensburg prior to 1876 are microfilmed and accessible at the central church archive in Regensburg. I believe that none of them are available through the LDS or at any other location. Ralph
Dear List - it can be a MAJOR problem when one loses urls/email addresses, etc. It is also a problem when there are thousands of "favorite" places on your computer. I work with an older 486 at 14.4 - yes - almost an antique. It will be quite awhile before I can upgrade my system. So, I found a way to keep track of my research, save space, keep organized - like many in the USA - I have family lines that extend from Europe, England, across the USA (and now the Middle East). When I do a "search" I "send" myself an email. "Copy" the hot link to the letter, "copy" any appropriate text - then send it to myself- then/or I can "save" the whole thing to a floppy. If the material appears in a Gedcom, or a History page - I try to "copy" the text. This "paid off" when I found a Kristina Aldrup, from Sweden from the early 1800's about two years ago. The website is no longer there - but I have the information/data saved for research. Hope this helps someone - Kristina Aldrup, San Antonio, TX, USA Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2000 08:39:01 -0600 (CST) From: owtlaw1@webtv.net To: BAVARIA-L@rootsweb.com Please see pages 3 through 22 on my home page. I'm sure you can replace some of your lost urls that way. Hope it helps. Wish I could help with your friends list. Have a good day & happy hunting.
