Hello. I'm new to the list and am hoping someone can tell me about Catholic church records in Landshut. I need a church record from the late 1700's, but I notice in the German phone directory there are several parishes in Landshut. Does anyone know if Landshut has a central church archives for that area? Thanks. Karen k.forbes@erols.com
Hello, yesterday I posted te message below to the list and I found some dozens of people, who helped me to get into contact with Mr. Heinsohn. Just wanted to say, what wonderful people you are. Dear Group, I am new to this site, but not new to genealogy. I am looking for a needle in a haystack. Because of the 1906 earthquake and fire in San Francisco, I have very few documents to search. I am looking for the area of Germany (possibly Bavaria) where the name MAESS originates. This is the maiden name of my grandmother . It is spelled just that way in the church books at Zion Lutheran Church in Oakland, CA . However, I have at least 6 other spellings including :MAES, MAAS, MAASS, MAS, MAYS, MACE, MAESE, etc. Her father was a blacksmith who was, for a time, in New Orleans. My grandmother was born there, but have not been successful at finding any documents there for birth or baptism. She was born in 1847--Yes--that is correct, my father was born in 1885, the youngest child of the five that lived, he died in 1964, leaving no hints or clues as to where his mother's people came from. Sometime between 1847 and 1850, they came to CA on a covered wagon. A child was born to the family in CA in 1853 ( census of 1860 ) no city of birth listed, only CA. Origin country for the father and mother just listed as Germany. We were in Salt Lake City last year, and came upon a record (ship passenger list) of a family named MAESS who came in the year 1833 , destination New York. Cannot seem to connect the family. Although the names are eerily correct, the ages do not seem to work. They are listed as coming from Byram, last permanent residence Byram, name of the vessel, Charles Carroll. Date: 1/5/1833 . Has anyone ever heard that name before ? Can you help ? Thanks in advance. Dee Dee Ross

Hi, I am new to this list and I am working on my following family surnames from the early 1700's through the 1870's: HEIM, WEIBERT, & LUCAS of Freinsheim, Pflaz, Bayern HEIM, KUNTZ, & WOLFHEIM of Wachenheim, Pfalz, Bayern KUNTZ & STOERTZER of Niederkirchen Deidesheim, Pfalz, Bayern LUCAS, KRUPPENBACHER, & DRILLIG (aka DRILLICH & TRILLICH) of Bad Duerkheim, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany My understanding is that these towns are all within a few miles of each other. If any one is working on these families, I would love to share information. I am also looking for any information (history, etc.) on the area around those towns. Thanks, Teri GenFindem@aol.com
Rolf, Ray Heinsohn, 6565 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena 77505, 281-991-8819. I had wondered about the name you had posted earlier that had a spelling similar to "Heinsohn". There are about 18 in the Houston phone book. In Frelsburg, Austin County Texas, there is Heinsohn's General Store. Nice, old-fashioned store where you can still get just about anything that modern "general" stores no longer carry. The family's been in Austin for many generations. If any ties at all, this county will have the Heinsohn's you're looking for as German settlers to Texas first went to this area. The town of Industry has a Texas Historical Marker dedicated to the first "permanent" settlement created by the German immigrants. Sharing. It's What It's All About! List Readers, I am a new subscriber and am trying to help my best friend who does not even know who her grandparents were. Her parents were Adam BEDACHT & Marie SCHARF, born 1898 & 1901 respectively, in Karbach, Bayern. Adam's father was a Nicholas, b c1868. Adam & Marie had 12 kids starting in 1923, and some of them still live in Germany I think. I have not been able to find anything at all on this name in the usual LDS records or in books at the library in Salt Lake City. Any help would be appreciated - especially from the German end. Thank you. Joan Marie in Oregon, U.S.A.

I am new to the list. I have postcards with correspondance between my grandfather and the Schrader family in Obergamau. My grandfather visited the area in 1930, his name was Arthur J. Baker. Does anyone know of a Lotte Schrader? (She may have been a singer). Thanks, Moira in Montreal P.S. the postcards are all in German and I cannot read them.

I just received some information about the family of my great grandfather Anton MAULWURF who was born in Etzelwang, Bavaria, Germany on 26 Oct 1876. Anton migrated to the USA in 1899 and settled in Sauk County, Wisconsin. He was a Lutheran minister. I would like to connect with any MAULWURF family who are descended from Jakob MAULWURF (died 30 Nov 1914) and Anna BIRKMANN (died 16 Feb 1907). :-) Kris
