Hi Listers; Tracing my forbears in Bavaria: Antonia Ring b. 1816 left Treffelstein in April 1870 and came to America. She is my 4xgrgrandmother. John Baptist Liegl, b.1826 in Hocha, near Waldmuenchen, left there in April 1854 and came to America. His is my 2xgrgrandfather. I understand from relatives that permission to emigrate had to be given before they left. Can anyone on this list tell me if I would contact the Rathaus in these towns for possible records or is there some central location where these are kept? Thank you Phyllis in Wisconsin
Regina: If you want to exchange information on Soeder family from Waldberg, Bavaria, please contact me. lslock@aol.com
Hello all, I'm new to the list - just finding out my grandmother, Ana Barbara (ENGELHARDT) DENZER, was born in Bavaria in 1889 in a town called Schwabach. It is just south of Nurnberg and not very big. I have been having trouble finding out much about the town (especially wanted to get addresses of Lutheran churches that had been there for at least 90 years and also archives address for Schwabach). I have no information on my grandmother's parents, siblings, etc. and am currently hitting my head against the wall trying to decide where to turn. I would like to find current relatives in the area. Grandma went back to Germany in 1950 to see family, shortly after her husband, Heinrich Joseph Denzer, died. (I was a child then and can only remember the Duhr family, who she visited, though there were a number of others too) I know there were quite a few relatives in the Schwabach area, but have no idea of there names/addresses. Also would like to find birth and marriage information for my grandparents. They got married during World War I. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm open to most anything at this point. I have been searching for almost 2 years now just to find out where she was born in Germany. Appreciate any input you might have! Sharon K. (DENZER) PIERCE rpspsg@gateway.net
List Readers, How does one go about getting records if the wife was orphaned and the mother was thought be have been an indentured servant? This would have been a marriage probably about 1920 between Anna Maria SCHARF/SCHARFF & Adam BEDACHT, probably in Karbach Lkr. Hassfurt. Anna Maria's mother was Katharina SCHARFF. That is all we know - no father's name for the child, nothing except that Anna Maria was orphaned and the mother was an indentured servant. HELP, PLEASE! Joan Marie in Oregon

I recently received information from the Landeskirchliches Archiv in Regensburg confirming the death of George Adam BRUNNENMEYER of Burk, Kries Ansbach on 1 May 1842 at the age of 26. Where can I write for civil records for the marriage certificate for he and Anna Marie DINKEL of Friedrichstal in 1840 and a birth certificate for their son John Christian BRUNNENMEYER, born 5 May 1841, also in Burk? Marmie
Hi! Has anyone noticed the family name of SCHOENHOF(F)ER or SCHONHOF(F)ER in the Schwaben area of Bavaria? They went to Weissenberg, Galicia. My grgrandfather was Franz and he married Juliane HEKTOR from Ottenhausen, Galicia. The Hektor family may have come from the same part of Bavaria. Any help gratefully appreciated! The Landshut church books are archived at the Diocese Archives at Regensburg (not Munich). Those church books have not been filmed by the LDS. Hello All, I am researching Joseph Hofmann and Dorothea Brunhoeffer who according to the US NY census records of 1860, 1870 1880 were from Bavaria, Germany. I don't see either one in the 1850 census. I could not find him on the Hamburg Passenger lists. Have not checked for her. He was naturalized in 1858. Manhattan Catholic Church records of the 1850's and 60's show a number of christenings and a marriage in 1851. I have carefully noted the sponsors at christenings and the witnesses at the marriage but I have not researched them. They were all German names and one of them was an Anna Hofmann, but I don't know yet who she is. There were no Brunhoeffer witnesses. Joseph and Dorothea's marriage record says that Joseph was from Muersbach (spelling hard to read) Bavaria and she was from Brebach, Bavaria. Apparently there is a Brebach but there is a Unterpreppach near to a Mursbach in the parish Ebern, Diocese of Wurzburg. From Joseph's death record in 1883 his parents were Joseph and Anna, no maiden name. Hers gives no parents names. I don't know if I have enough to write to Diocese of Wurzburg, without her parents names. The Mormons have not filmed these town church records. Are there any other types of German records I could use to fill in some information? In other words on the district level or Bavaria level? Regards, Nancy

I have been researching the PENSEL family for many years. Frederich PENSEL was born 1805 in Ostheim. He married Catharina SCHONWOLF in Kaichen, Hesse 1834. In 1852 he and his family emigrated to the USA. They settled in Chesapeake City, Maryland. If you are researching these families, please contact me. VAPensel@aol.com Thank you, Ginger Pensel
