    2. Dear Listers I, too, tried the Shtetlseeker to find "Jaegerleiten". No luck. Arthur Teschler's geoserv also had no Jaegerleiten. The closest thing I can find in my dictionary is "Jaegerlatein" for huntsmen's slang or tall stories. Wolfgang, can you tell us in what context you came across the word? If you think it is in Bohemia perhaps someone on the German-Bohemian list can supply an answer. If you find out, let us know. I am also interested to know how you locate this possible einöde. 1. [BAVARIA] Letter to Kriegsarchiv
    2. Hi, listers, In answer to questions regarding my letter to the Kriegsarchiv, may I say first that I wrote in German and the answer was in German. I always use the wonderfully helpful paragraphs "Writing to Germany" supplied by Horst A. Reschke in the German Genealogical Digest, Volume 10, Number 2, Summer 1994. If you go to www.german-digest.com it may be that you can still order it. Or you may wish to subscribe to this very helpful digest. The information I gave included my ggrandfathers full name, date of birth, my relationship to him, and troop information. I asked for photocopies of his military data. I offered to pay when I received their bill. This letter originally was addressed to Bayerisches Haupstarchiv Abt.IV, Kriegsarchiv, Leonrodstrasse 57, D 80636 München. The answer came from Bayerisches Haupstaatsarchiv, Schönfeldstrasse 5-11, D 80539 München. The troop information I learned from a much earlier letter to the Bayerische Landsverein für Familienkunde E.V., D 80539 München, Ludwigstrasse 14/1 asking about immigration permits. Loosely translated I learned that "Lienhardt, Friedrich, farmer and proprietor of beer tavern in Benk with his wife and children, although with further permission needed for the left behind eldest son, Wolfgang, in the the Kgl. Inf. Regt. Hertling. Münchberg 2 March 1848 Baiern." I received the invoice: DM4,00 (DM2,00 each for two photocopies. DM6,00 I think an addition to a minimum charge DM11,00 Expenses DM21,00 Two photocopies which look like two pages from a large ledger, showing handwritten names and regiments, probably like a large size Kirchenbuch. A covering letter. The irony is that I still cannot prove that this is really my ggrandfather, because I cannot find his marriage certificate, and none of the US Census or church records give his birth town. In his naturalization papers he renounces the King of Bavaria. And a genealogist in Bavaria found a birth/baptismal record for him in Weissdorf, based on a calculated birthdate. So I keep looking for documents. Hope this answers all questions. If not let me know. LaVerne ltboehmke@aol.com researching B.O.E.H.M.K.E. H.E.M.M.A.N.N. H.E.I.N.E.M.A.N.N. J.A.E.H.N.I.K.E.
