"Buergeraufnahme" is the "granting of citizenship" of a town. Citizenship gave a number of rights and duties to the citizen (Buerger). Usually the "Buergeraufnahme" records show the date and the fee to be paid by the future citizen. If your area is anything like Union County, New Jersey the newspapers didn't carry obits from local people until after 1900. Only very prominent residents were mentioned. My Kempf families' obit never made it into the paper in the 1860s and 1870s. Call your local library and college to see if they have the microfilmed papers. I am interested in exchanging information on the following surnames and their families. Simon KASBERG and Katharina Hannapel had a son Wilhelm KASBERG born 1817. Wilhelm brought his family to USA in 1852 I have information on the family since then. I am interested in find- ing out if Wilhelm had any brothers who might have come to USA or any of their descendants who might have come to USA. Wil- helm KASBERG changed his name in USA to KAESBERG FRANZ SCHIEK married Maria Hornung in Gosbach, Germany. They had a son named Franz who was married twice. Children by the first wife came to USA in 1852 from Bremen. One of them, Marg- aretha married Conrad Schonder who also came from Germany & was on the same ship. I have information on their descendants. I am interested in learning more about the children and descendants who stayed in Germany CONRAD SCHONDER, grandson of Michael and Anna Reitzen Schonder. Michael & Anna were married 1773, had a son Conrad who died 1867, who had CONRAD SCHONDER who married Margaretha Schiek. They came from Bischofsheim de Rhon in Germany in 1852 and were married in Buffallo, New York, USA I have information on all of his descendants. I am interested in learning more about MICHAEL ANTON SCHONDER, a brother to Conrad. Michael stayed in Bischofsheim and there are still people by the name of Schonder living there. I cannot get them to answer any mail. There are several Schonder families, Kaesberg families, Kasberg families and Schiek families here in USA that believe we are from the same families in Germany and would like to get all of our information together. Please help us. Velma L. Schonder tootsie5@gte.net
I search the name STIEGLER. The earliest information I have is a Georg Balthsafar STIEGLER who lived in Ilsfeld, Wurttemberg from 1734-1800. His father was Johann Balthsafar STIEGLER who lived in Kleinerlach, Wurttemberg from ?-?, another small hamlet with no church. The parish church for Kleinerlach was an adjacent village that has records only back to 1850 or so, no help. There was a Johann Balthsafar Stiegler that lived in => Marktbergel, Bavaria <= around 1700. This village is east of Kleinerlach, not too far away. I think there was no church in Marktbergel, only a small hamlet. Can anyone tell me the location of the parish church that someone in Marktbergel, Bavaria would have attended? They would have attended Evangelical Church. Also nearby (slightly further east of Marktbergel) , is the village of Kirchensittenbach. I have found many Stiegler names in that church records but no direct connection. I suspect they are related, however. If you have useful information please send private mail to email ==> roystiegler@compuserve.com. Or post on the list. Roy W Stiegler, Jr

Hi Listers, Me again! In the year of 1857 in Hamilton County, Cincinnati, what was the common practice with wedding announcements? (St.John The Baptist Church is where they were married.) Was it common practice to place an announcement in the local newspapers? Ex.- My people were FRESH from Germany, so a local German Newspaper probably. Right? Would this be the same procedure as looking fro obituaries? Just curious because it just popped into my head while i was taking a nap! I never actually gave this idea a thought before! I'm always thinking of birth,death,obits,etc......... Sincerely, Jeff Kempf, Sr. <><
Hi Listers, I'm really searching hard with no luck for my gggrandma Appalonia Albert Kempf's 1874 Cincinnati German newspaper obituary! Now, she died on 4 March, 1874 from scarlet fever, so i'm certain the obit should be in one of the German newspapers in the month of March,1874! My question would be; How many German Newspapers were there in 1874 in Cincinnati/Hamilton County? These newspapers must be on microfilm, hence where is the best place to get the film numbers for March,1874 Obits? The same questions from above would apply also to my gggrandpa Philip Kempf whom died 21 January,1899 in Cincy. Sincerely, Jeff <><

Hi listmembers Am I posting on the right post for a town called Regensburg which is about 248 miles SSW of Berlin? I am looking for the family of Rosa and Lsein Herbert from that town. They are known to be related to an Uncle Glas who was Burgermeister of Regensburg at he time that the girls left in 1890 to come to America when they were 22 and 20. If anyone out there has any information I would greatly appreciate it. Rosa is my greatgrandmother. Thanks, Gail Riker Researching: Riker,Gartner,Herbert,Balogh, Descher,Burbacher, KIng and Horn
Both sets of my great-grandparents came from "Bavaria". I can't find anything that narrows it down to a city/village. George BODENDORFER came to the USA in about 1850, I believe with a brother William, they settled in Muskegon, Michigan. George married Martha Elizabeth MOHR, they had 1 daughter Emma. George ROST also came from "Bavaria" & settled in Muskegon in 1869, I have a copy of his father's Intention Of Citizenship from Muskegon County--but he left this area for parts unknown, Where did Konrad ROST go--who was his wife--are we apart of anyone's family tree??
