This one was an error with my source, not my typing! :-) Also, my source had an error for the Tinley Park, IL one, it said "Tinsley", but I caught that one before posting as I used to live very near to Tinley Park and knew that was an error. Hopefully, all of the remainder of the addresses are error free! If anyone else discovers errors with the addresses please feel free to email me or post to the list. I think we all spend enough time trying to track down the ancestors without adding bad addresses to the mix. Thanks again, Joanne

Hello, Would someone please point me to a web site where I can be educated on the difference between Bremen and Bremerhaven? I've tried on my own and remain confused. I understand, after much reading, that most of the passenger lists from ships leaving Bremen no longer exist [wars and such]. I did read that there is an attempt to recreate many of the lists from newspapers, for example. Recently learned that my ancestors may have sailed: From: Bremerhaven To: Quebec Year: 1852 According to someone at the Bistumsarchives in Speyer, 30 families left Otterstadt in 1852 and sailed on the "Arthur." Can anyone help me add to this information? What Shipping Line owned the "Arthur?" Are there any records extant for this ship? Does anyone know if Quebec records may hold any hope? Very happy to read about it myself if someone could point me to the information. Web searches so far haven't given me much hope. I'm crossing my fingers. Thanks, Vielen Dank, Debbie Tallahassee,FL dlp1083@garnet.acns.fsu.edu
Hello Everyone, Found my GGG/grandparents, 2 sets, and other ancestors in Otterstadt Bavaria [Bayern] from 1825 to about 1852. Then, they emigrated to Canada and later the USA. GGG/Grandparents: George Henry REMÜNDER m. Juliane HECHT Kasper MERZ m. Barbara HAFENECKER maybe in Pirmasens. More details if interested. Both couples had children in Otterstadt. George died in Otterstadt. Cheers, Debbie Tallahassee,FL USA dlp1083@garnet.acns.fsu.edu
Hi, Someone on the list asked me about Franken/Franconia and just today I discovered this URL by accident: 25. German genealogy: Franconia / Franken 53% The duchy of Franconia (Herzogtum Franken) consisted in early medieval times of the river Main region, the central Rhine river area (roughly Worms - Cologne) and Hesse. Found by: Excite, Magellan http://w3g.med.uni-giessen.de/gene/reg/HIST/franconia.html I'm sorry, I don't have your email anymore and hope you will receive this through the list. Joanne
Hi, After spending six years of searching for the arrival in the United States of my ZOLLER (Burtenbach,G"unzburg, Bayern) family I found then listed on a ship manifest. According to the National Archives the ship information is listed below. Brig. Nirnburg *(1)Note Port of Departure: Hamburg Master: J.T.I. Peters Arrived: New York, N.Y., 3 July 1854 *(1)It looks to me like the ship's manifest may read Brig. NIERBURG,but it is very faded! I have written The Mariners Museum & Archives and also South Street Seaport Museum looking for additional information or a photo, and have found nothing. Almost all people abroad this ship are listed as being from Bavaria was wondering if anyone on the list would have additional information. Thanks Dave
Susan....In the (below) snipped portion of your posting of More Extractions from St. Joseph's Catholic Church the name Magdelena SIMON is of interest to me (although to the best of my knowledge my SIMON interests were not Catholic). I am having much difficulty in locating where in U.S. my ggrandfather ...Phil(l)ip SIMON and family first arrived. Family tradition is that he came from Hof, Bavaria abt. 1886 but I have not been able to confirm this. I have not been able to find his name on any ship's passenger list yet....but I am still searching. Do you have any info on Magdelena SIMON that may give me any leads. I have reached a point of checking any SIMON I find for possible leads Thank you. -- Bob Simon, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Hi, I've had a few people ask me to put this on the list, and although I'm pretty sure it's already been posted, here it is: The Double "s" thingy (ß): Alt 225 OR Alt 0223 Both work for me, but you should see which one works for you. Here's some various links that might be of interest to you fellow genealogists out there. Many are on my site...but I've got over 2000 categorized links on Firstmom's that lead to great resources...cant post all 2000 so I will post a few of my categories and let you browse from there: Firstmom's Ship Lists -25 ships I transcribed, links leading to thousands more. http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/ships.htm Firstmom's Military links for genealogy- includes War of 1812 all the way to Veitnam era. Categorized by wars, and also states in the Civil War. Also includes links and info on getting military records from the National Archives. http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/military.htm Ok this one isnt mine, but it has over 577 rated links, each with a description, so it is a good site to check out. For UK sites click on Index and then on UK http://www.worldwide-top100.net/tops5/rankem.cgi?action=in&id=firstmom Non-Usa- this one is for all the other countries. Again, ones who have more than around 50-100 links have their own page (Germany, Ireland etc) and you'll find their link here. http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/nonusa.htm Firstmom's German Genealogy Resources- Includes lots of links for Germany, especially Bavaria because that's where my PAULUS and NEIBERT ancestors came from. http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/germany.htm Freebies for Genealogists- includes links forms/letters in various languages for sending requests for records overseas, and also forms to print free to keep track of your own genealogy data, graphics, clip-art, volunteer lookup sites, places to get free family homepages, Gedcom readers, just lots of neat stuff! http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/free.htm Ok...have fun with it and good luck searching! Thank you for any help. Pat Pat, My RV Autoatlas shows a Herschweiler-Pettersheim 66909 KUS and I see it on the detailed map. The numbers refer to the postal code (I think), but I'm not sure what the KUS refers to. And it does appear to be in the Pfalz/Palatinate. And if I'm not mistaken, the Pfalz would not now be part of Bavaria, although lands now in the Pfalz region could have been part of Bavaria at one time. My Schifferstadt ancestors also came from the Pfalz, between Ludwigshafen and Speyer. The old church records show Schifferstadt/Bayern (Bavaria). Note that I show a double 'T' in Pettersheim. I see on the map that the villages are separated by a couple of kilometers. Homburg is due south about 18 km and Zweibrueken (umlauted u) is about 25 km south. You will need a detailed map to see the villages, as they look pretty small. Hope this helps! Bob Wambach, researching ISSELHARD.....ROMEIS...... SCHWAGER.....and many other names.
Hi list members seek info or interest in family of MARTIN KINDSVATER (anglicized to Kindsfather) b. 15 June 1837 Karlstadt, Rheinbayern, d. 27 March 1911, Narrowsburg NY married REGINA FREUND b.29 Sept 1840 Bavaria, d. 20 May 1918 Narrowsburg NY. Year of marriage approx 1864 which is same year they came to USA. Had 11 children, several of whom i have info on. They first appear in 1875 New York census in Sullivan County. Have checked a lot of 1864 ships' lists with negative results - because of the Civil War (if 1864 is accurate) were many Germans coming thru Canada ? Thanks in advance for any info.
