    1. [BAVARIA] DORFNERS
    2. I am researching Jacob DORFNER and his wife Ann OEHMER DORFNER. They were from a village called Ries in Bayern. I have tracked down Ries to be swallowed up by the city of now present Passau on the Danube river, in Niederbayern, Bavaria. I am looking for church records on this couple or any information as I will be traveling to Germany in July. They immigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin around 1840 - 1850. I do know that they were Catholics. Thanks Cheryl

    1. [BAVARIA] Eva Barbara HARTMAN 1836 Eldedorf
    2. Jill & Mike
    3. I am searching for information on Eva Barbara HARTMAN, born 10 December 1836 in Eldedorf according to her funeral card. I have been told this town is near Nurnberg in Bavaria but have been unable to find it in gazeteers. Can someone confirm its existance in 1836? Eva is said to have been born on the HARTMAN estate the daughter of the head baker. All servants are said to have taken the family name (don't know if this is true). She is said to have left Germany at the age of 7 on a cattle boat for St. Louis at the request of the Busch family to work as a baker for them. I do know that she was living in East St. Louis, St. Clair Co., Illinois in 1860 and was married to Thomas James BURTON according to the 1860 census. This is the first record I have found for her in the US. Mike

    1. [BAVARIA] George RANFT, born ca 1810, Bavaria
    2. Adele Corbin
    3. Hello, I am new to this list. I am looking for the parents of George RANFT, born ca 1810 in Bavaria as well as the location of his birth. George emigrated to the US. He died in Columbus, Ohio in a cholera epidemic 14 Aug 1849. In Columbus, George married Barbara WOHLLEBER who had emigrated from Reichmannsdorf. Barbara had a child she called George RANFT while she was still in Germany. Whether this was truly the child of the senior George I do not know. I do not know if they knew each other before coming to the US. I do know they were married in Columbus, Ohio 1 Aug 1843. They had 3 more children: Marie Anna, born 1844, seems to have died when her father did; Catherine, born 1846 and Nicholas Wendelin RANFT, born 1847. Looking for further information on the origin of this family. Thanks, Adele Corbin corbinae@fuse.net

    2. Searching for information on JOHN KREMHELLER and ELIZABETH RALTNECKER, parents of John Louis Leopold Kremheller, who was born on November 8, 1874, presumably in Munich. It was said that the son was an orphan and came to America on May 24, 1887 at age 12. (On the ship's manifest he was listed as a labourer. Isn't that incredible?) He had a half brother in the US. Any ideas on how to find marriage and death records for the parents? Are there city directories for Munich in the 1800's? Where might orphaned children go - perhaps to a Catholic facility, since the son was Catholic? Thanks for any ideas you may have! Valera D'Esopo valeraeliz@cs.com

    2. Pat Speers
    3. Hi, Marmie, Early marriages are being put on the Illinois Archives Web site. I did a quick run-through using just Br for the bride's surname. I saw no BRUNNENMEYER, but noticed several varieties in three counties. I didn't see Anna Marie, but I was going fast. Anyway, not all counties are complete; some aren't started, and some records haven't survived. If you know what county she was in, you can check the status. If they stayed in Illinois, John Christian's name should show up on the list if there is a record. And wouldn't his name be on the 1860 census even if his mother's name changed? In a perfect world, maybe? Go here http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/arc_home.html Land records, Civil War records and many county records also are listed. Explore the whole site. Hope you find something useful.
