My G-Grandfather George JACOB was born there in 1874.He is the son of George JACOB and Margaret RITTWEGER. He came to the United States about 1899. 1. [BAVARIA] Town locations and the Shtetlseeker
    2. Mary Ann Allen
    3. Hello all, There have recently been an uncommonly number of questions concerning the location of towns in Bavaria. Here is a good piece of advice when searching for towns in Germany or elsewhere in central and eastern Europe. Go to the Shtetlseeker at the following address: http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm Put in the town name and select Germany. You will see a listing of similar-sounding or spelling of the town you gave. You also receive the coordinates for the location of those towns. Click on a likely name and you will find yourself on Mapquest with a map showing a red star for the location of the town requested. You can narrow map down to find the town if it is not immediately apparent. Sometimes the town is too small for an actual name on the map but the red star shows you where the town is located. This is a site to bookmark. I have used it hundreds of times. Very useful. Kind regards, Mary Ann --- Mary Ann Allen wallen@pipeline.com The Gathering Place http://sites.netscape.net/murrallen/homepage

    1. [BAVARIA] Bavarian Town
    2. Animate
    3. Hello to All, I am new to this list. I recently received a copy of my immigrant ancestor's naturalization document from 1850. On this it stated that the town, however, it is very difficult to read. I will give my best guesses and perhaps someone will know this name: Strowring or Strouring, Bavaria. He was giving up his alligiance to the King of Bavaria. Thanks much for any direction. Jean

    2. Would anyone have any information or are researching the name BEYER . My ggranfather was christened on Feb, 28 1822 . He was born on Feb 20 1822 . The church information I found says it was the Evangelisch,Finkenbach,Pfaltz, Bayern. His name at that time was Henrich Adam Beyer. He came to the United States on the ship Maryland on 7-1-1842. He was married to Fredericka Fetzer in Germany or in the States . I have not found any information on the marriage. From the german church records I think his father was also named Henrich Adam Beyer. I can not decipher the german records very well and can only pick out the names I recoginize.
