    1. [BAVARIA] Re: BAVARIA-D Digest V00 #119
    2. Recent circumstances will find me in Germany in May, a year sooner than I had planned. Therefore I need to try to find information as soon as possible. Does anyone know where in Munich one would go to look up vital statistics of births and marriages? Where is the main Catholic church which would have church records available? Are there city directories for Munich and where would they be housed? Thanks for any info you may have! Valera D'Esopo valeraeliz@cs.com

    1. [BAVARIA] Baizen - Bayern
    2. Amanda, I think it should be Bayern, the German name for Bavaria. I show nothing like Baizen in my German map book. Of course, you need to find the town now, as Bayern/Bavaria covers a lot of territory. Look in church marriage records, also baptizm records, where I found the town of my ancestors, also in Bayern. 3. Pfaffendorf belongs to the parish of Pfarrweisach today, and to the bishopric of Wuerzburg. There are many records microfilmed in Wuerzburg, but as far as I know, the books of this region are only available in the parish. So better you send a letter directly to Pfarrweisach-Pfaffendorf. 1. [BAVARIA] "Stooken"
    2. Richard and Linda Ploch
    3. One of my husband's ancestors, Catherine, came to Texas from Bavaria between 1842 and March of 1846 with her daughter, Mary Ann. Her name appeared on a marriage license in Texas as Catherine Stooken. Years later Mary Ann Stooken appeared as Mary Ann Stokes. Does anyone have any ideas as to a correct spelling for that Bavarian name, Stooken. Also, is it possible Stokes would have been the name coming from Germany? Re: Baizen: Bayern was spelled Bion on the census info for Catherine. Couldn't find that one on the map either. Names were spelled just like they sounded. Thanks, Linda

Could she go anywhere in Bavaria or did she need to go to Memmingen or Munich? Is there anyone whith knowledge on this? Thank you for your help. Claire
