    1. [BAVARIA] location of a town
    2. Hello, I just joined this list and need help locating a town. My great great grandfather Michael HOEHN was born in Bavaria. I just found his brother Frank and information where he was born. I'm looking for a town named Bryne. Is this in Bavaria? On census records Frank always put that he was born in Bavaria. In the Putnam County Ohio library there is a family file that has his birthplace as Bryne Germany. I can't find this on any map I have of Germany. Thanks for your help. Janet

Not even that the town name had been changed. Most likely the name was misspelled or the person writing the info could not understand what was being said and wrote whatever he/she thought it was and really distorted the name. This does happen, more often than we wish. There are other ways of trying to hone in on the name, and hopefully you will receive some help in this regard. Nancy

    1. [BAVARIA] List of emigrants to Blair/Cambria Counties from Bavaria, Germany
    2. Sue
    3. Hello to all, The following people were some of the 19th century emigrants to the state of Pennsylvania whose original homeland was located in the German state of Bavaria. After their arrival to America, these emigrants settled in the Pennsylvania towns of ALTOONA, located in Blair County, and CARROLLTOWN, located in Cambria County. Their Bavarian villages of origin were found to be in the vicinity of Deggendorf, located in the middle and eastern section of Bavaria called Niederbayern. These emigrants were people I have found while working on my own Pennsylvania/Niederbayern genealogy research, and are provided here to possibly help others who are doing research in these Pennsylvania towns. The columns in this list represent surname, given name, date of record, type of record found, name of home village. 2. Michael Rauck
    3. There are at least three Sollern and one Solln. Solln became part of Munich city on December 1, 1938. You should first determine which is likely. The surname of Kornprobst still exists in Altmannstein (was parish of Sollern). On the other hand, it exists also in Indersdorf, which is only 9 km from Petershausen and 10 km from Jetzendorf. So the answer is open again. 3. Hello, Use the Shtetlseeker http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm Place Solern in the search engine and select Germany in the dropdown menu. You will come to a page with a number of possible towns with similar spellings. Click on the ones you think might be what you are looking for and see it they are in Bavaria. If you have another town name involved, check that one also and see if they are close to each other. 2. There are Meyer's in Rheinzabern, Germany. When we were their we met a Mr. Meyers that was doing his family history. A lot of time different names can be in one area. If you get the tape for St. Michaels Church in Rheinzabern at the FHC you could look and see if any such family was from there. I will look on the tapes we have and see if any of your names come up. We do not get to the center as much as we would like but when I do go I will look. Happy New Year!
