The error is in the spelling of the word genealogy. Type address with corrected spelling and it works fine. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rose Core<mailto:rosecore@airmail.net> To: BAVARIA-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:BAVARIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 24, 2005 10:03 AM Subject: RE: [BAVARIA] Doing research in Germany... Hello List, I found this post whithin the List archives from Irma Sorg of Brisbane, Australia. > In a message dated 1/23/2005 12:00:34 PM Eastern Standard Time I am researching family Schindlbeck, and would appreciate any information > about Leonhard SCHINDLBECK, father of Andreas SCHINDLBECK, born 30 April, > 1798, in Holztraubach, Niederbayern, Germany. > > I am researching family STICH, and would appreciate any information of > Leonhart STICH, father of Johann STICH, born 9 December 1635, Happurg, > Mittelfranken, Bayern, Germany I have notes and names of all the SCHINDLBECK from the Village of Holztraubach (population 202) Niederbayern, just north of Mallersdorf/Pfaffenberg, going back to my GGGGGG Grandfather George SCHINDLBECK born in 1693 from research I requested from Marianne Sutter (genealogist from Aufhausen, Niederbayern). I have attempted to contact Irma via her e-mail from the original post with no luck with a response. Hopefully she is still subscribed to the List and if so please contact me at crtech@tds.net Also, my Wife Cindi and I have been to Holztraubach (May of 2004) and are returning in the second half of May this year for further research as well as a vacation. The surname SCHINDLBECK is no longer present in the Village but many of the inhabitants have SCHINDLBECK ancestors within their family history. Best Regards, Troy Schindlbeck Spring Lake, Michigan USA
I am new to this list and am looking for info on Johann Erhardt SCHOBERT, born 10 Aug 1869 in Kirchenlamitz, Bayern. I believe his parents were Christopf Schobert born 04 May 1826 in Kirchenlamitz and Margareth (?) born 28 Aug 1830 in Thierstein, Bayern. Any info on any of these individuals would be very helpful. Thank you, Linda Giles (gggrandaughter in Canada)
ATTENTION: CHERYL HARTLEY, Would you mind doing an ole 75-year of man a big favor..? When you receive a copy of the Gross Niedesheim über Frankenthal, Pfalz, Germany records, also copy down and send me a copy of "any" Merckle, (Merckel, Merkle), Mehring and Heilmann (Heylmann) entries. This is where my immigrant ancestoral Grandmother- ANNA Maria Magdalena Merckle, born Jan. 30, 1730 came from. There was also a Bee-Keeper family of Johannes Mehring living there too in the 1700's. My low fixed-pension retirement funds do not allow me much in the way of expenditures towards genealogy these days. Or, perhaps you would send me a copy of these records and I can mail you my check for same..!! I also have Hartley's in and around the Pittsburgh, PA. area, relating to my " Mering" side of the family. My sincerest thanks in advance.. John A. Hello all (and Diedrich), I finally ordered the film for Evangelische Kirche Großniedesheim (BA. Frankenthal) to try to confirm the parents of my gg-grandfather Andreas Müller. I have lots of circumstantial evidence that points to Philipp Müller and Katharina Reich as his parents. I have confirmed that this Philipp and Katherine Mller were in Cincinnati, OH, by 1870 and died there in 1877. They may have been in Meigs County, OH, in the 1860 census with Andreas and living next door to a married son? Philipp (b. 1838). Katharine and Philipp are the correct ages. Katherine was born in 1803 and Philipp in Dec. 1809. In Cincinnati Katherine and Philipp (same ages) can be connected with daughters Eva (b. 1840) and Mary (b. 1835). At no time do I find all of this family together and there is a gap in the church records prior to 1839. The christening record for Andreas seem to indicate that he was born November 15, 1845. All U.S. record for Andrew give November 19, 1845 as his birthdate. Is it possible that the church record is wrong. I can read some of main details, but not the full records. Are there any clues I'm missing? Here's the link to the records on my webpage, if anyone can help translate. http://www.hartleys.info/html/muller_christenings.html Thanks, Cheryl Hartley
Dear All, For those researching an area and using a computer program to store the names, it is sometimes better to standardize the names to one spelling so that all people born in that location can be quickly sorted and located. Otherwise you would have to input all known variations in order to find everyone. I have my file set up that way but whenever I send information to others, I note that there are other spellings, variations, and the country may be different depending on the year of birth and so on. For instance, Kleinwallstadt, Bavaria, Germany in file but noted that they were born before Bavaria was incorporated into Germany. This way if I sort by birth location, I can put in only one format. Sincerely. Jim
I agree that place names should be accurate to the time of birth or death that is being reported. But I think it is helpful to note as well what town it is now. For example my supposed german relatives were really born on the present day Poland Lithuanian border which at the time was Russia. The town has the same town name but the country is different. I put the present day country so that present day family members can find our connection. Sejny, Poland previously Sejny, Russia is what I list. I am having difficulty locating a researcher in Bavaria for genealogy work. I have sent emails to several and have not heard back. Has anyone on the list used someone such as this and if you were pleased with the work, would you be willing to share the name and contact information? Many thanks, Lynn

BTW to what other lists -- (German?) -- do you belong? Trudy
Dear Researchers, Many thanks to Cris, Marion and Narda for suggesting preparations and resources that will enrich my trip to Bavaria with my father. After using the Morman site for several years, thanks to your posts, I have learned how to investigate specific towns. And I am also going to begin using my local family history library. Danke Joseph Kramer
