Baughman went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2008, at St. Vincent Health Center. She was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, April 14, 1919, the daughter of the late Rhine and Minnie Dunn Van Binsberger. She had resided at Independence Court since August of 2005, when she moved from her home of 55 years in Fairborn, Ohio, to be closer to her family. After her move to Erie, she quickly became involved in her new life at Independence Court, starting a chime choir for its residents and playing for chapel services and sing-a-longs. She loved attending the Erie Philharmonic concerts and the Community Concert series and greatly enjoyed the scenery during frequent rides along the peninsula and Presque Isle Bay. Her church home was the First United Methodist Church of Erie. Throughout her life, she was an avid solver of crossword puzzles and loved to tell jokes. She especially loved being near her family. While she lived in Ohio, she was a long-time piano and organ teacher; had retired as the Director of Music of the First Presbyterian Church in Fairborn (where she remained a member after her move) and had played in and directed several English handbell choirs. Her love of music co! ntinued throughout her life. Ruth graduated from Jersey City State Teacher's College in 1940, and was a third grade teacher for ten years in Oradell, New Jersey, before her marriage and move to Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Baughman, whom she married on June 24, 1950, in Hackensack. Survivors include her daughter, Doris Eckel and husband, Thomas of Franklin; a granddaughter, Melissa Kojancie and her husband, Steve of Erie; a grandson, Tim Eckel and wife, Lauren, of Nampa, Idaho; and the joy of her life, her great-granddaughter-Ava Mae Kojancie, also of Erie. Ruth is also survived by a cousin Doris Deede, of West Caldwell, New Jersey. Friends will be received at the Morris Sons Funeral Home, 104 West Main Street, Fairborn, Ohio, Thursday, July 10, from 4-7 p.m. A service celebrating her life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1130 Highview Drive, Fairborn, Ohio, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, with burial to follow at the Alexander Cemetery near Athens, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at Independence Court, 41 West Gore Road, Monday July 14, at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1130 Highview Drive, Fairborn, Ohio 45324.
