Dob 5/2/1798 died 12/11/1878 in Monroe County Ohio. He married Katharina Schneider of Ohrenberg Westfalen Prussia (the best I can make out on the paper, Ohrenberg might be incorrect) her dob 2/27/1813 died 12/26/1885 in Monroe County Ohio also. They are buried on Hannibal hill in the Zion Evangelical Church Cemetery. Johann was listed as a tanner by trade in the Ohio Township. They had the following children Elizabeth Bauer dob 1/29/1838 died 10/30/1892 in New Martinsville WV. Buried on Whiteman hill. She married Andreas/Andrew Hammel of Hessenstahl Germany. John Bauer dob 1840 Catherine Bauer dob 1845 Frederic Bauer dob 1855 As for immigration date I have none. Speculation is as follows; on Elizabeth's census it states dob as VA or sometime OH. so I would say they were in the US when she was born. I do have one questions if some one can help me, on the Christening records for the church it reads like this for the kids June 2 Elizabeth Katharine daughter of Andr. Hammel and Elizabeth nee Specht, born April 24, 1859 What is the "nee Specht" mean? Andrew immigrated in 1855 at the age of 21 Elisabeth would have been 17 their first child was born in 1859. Does this mean she was married before? Help!!!! Merry Ann ==== BOWER Mailing List ==== To post messages to the Bower discussion list, send them to BOWER-L@rootsweb.com
