Lemuel Bates, born July, 1738, married October 16, 1766 to Mercy Wetherell and went to Leeds, Maine. I think I have him linked to Clement Bates, mainly through Hanover, Massachusetts, Bates families and records, but it is pretty sketchy. I think he was the son of Joseph, grandson of Joseph and Mary (Bowker) Bates, Joseph, Joseph, Clement. Doug a descendant in Maine
