First, my records show that the Anderson Bates you have mentioned is not the Anderson Bates that was the son of David Bates. The John "Anderson" Bates, son of David, was born about 1784 VA, but died before 1840 in Alabama. He md. Aug 10, 1809 Wilkes Co, GA to Sarah Evans (b.1787 VA-d.after 1860 Coosa Co, AL, d/o David Evans and Mary Harris). 1830 Census Wilkes Co, GA p. 313. 1840 Census Tallapoosa Co, AL (widow). 1850 Census Coosa Co, AL (widow). Their children were Hannah, William E., Eveline, David Mitchell, Sarah Ann, Francis Marion, Thomas Jefferson, and Mary Bates. I show that the Susan Bates that md. John Walker Boswell was the daughter of John Witt Bates (b.1795-d.1844 Coweta Co, GA) and wife Rhoda Evans (b.1798-d.after 1882, d/o David Evans). They also had a daughter Caroline Bates that md. Mr. Colley (?). This John Witt Bates was the son of James William Bates (b.c.1760 Halifax Co, VA) who md. on Mar 31, 1788 Halifax Co, VA to SUSANNAH WITT. James William Bates was the brother of the aforesaid mentioned David Bates.
