MY GGF IS: William "BATES" GARRETSON b.1847 in Jefferson Co. Ohio m/ Carrie L. HAYNES. father is Joseph and gf in John of PA. Knowing that families uses mother and grandmother's maiden names, my quest is for a BATES/GARRETSON connection. Or did his parents just like the name??? In reviewing Hinshaw's book, I find a great deal of info of the above names in the same areas of Quaker families. In the early census index of Jefferson Co., there are many BATES & GARRETSONs and a sprinkling of FLEMINGs. Any and all help will be appreciated Audrey
