    1. Re: [BATES-L] Whitons and Towers
    2. Evelyn, Yes, Deborah Whiton who married Solomon Bates on May 1, 1730, was the dau. of John Whiton and Mary Tower. But she must have died soon after, for Solomon married Deborah Studley on Dec. 14, 1732. She is the mother of all Solomon's children, according to any record I have seen. The Whiton lineage and that marriage is recorded in George Lincoln's History of the Town of Hingham, Mass., Vol II. But, Lincoln has D. Whiton moving to Chesterfield with Solomon, and I don't see how she could have. He fails to mention Solomon's second marriage in the Bates familly section, also. I suppose this is how the FHC record got it wrong, also. I'm descended from Solomon & D. Studley, but I've been interested in what could have happened to Deborah Whiton, and can't find anything. The other interesting thing is that Joshua Bates married Rachel Tower, Dau. of Ibrook Tower and Margaret Harding. According to Lincoln, Mary was Rachel's younger (by 2 yrs.) sister. Those intermarriages did complicate things. This has been interesting. Please write again. Jane Brumbaugh
