David, Your Ahnentafel is very interesting to me, as I descend from Clement but have not found as many names in the previous generations. Bates ancestors, yes, as the FHC and other histories went back to John (or Thomas, they said), b. 1415. Where did you find his wife (Agnes)'s name? And Thomas's wife (Margaret or Mary Caulkins)? I had only Margaret for her, showing b. ca. 1440. I'm sure my date of b. for Andrew was wrong, but where did you locate 1494 as the date? (I am not doubting, just would like to share your sources.) As to James B. Bate (gen. 6), do you know where the "B." came from? Then to Clement's wife Anna: All sources I have seen gave no surname for her, so I hope that Dalrymple is right, as I really would like to know. And did she come from Lydd? I am descended from Emily, Benjamin, James, Solomon, Joshua, Joseph, Clement... James (Sr.) and his son Benjamin (b. 1770, not to be confused with James's brother Benjamin) and Benjamin's siblings moved westward to Chesterfield, MA, and I am looking for birth records of the children of Benjamin Hannah (Kelley) Bates. The 1922 Bates Bulletin lists them, but does not cite specific documentation. Does anyone know any more about them? Thank you for any help you can provide. Jane Brumbaugh
