Vickie and other BATES researchers, Our Bates family ancestor was Francis Marion BATES (b @ 1840) who went from Cherokee Co., GA to Lawrence Co., AR. Listing from Genweb re BATES 1850 census, heads of household in Cherokee Co., GA: BATES, F. M. 40 (age) GA (birthplace) 72 (household number) I think he is the father of our known ancestor but have not yet proven this supposition. This FM BATES, born in 1810, was about the only one on the 1850 census born in GA. We would like to make contact with others researching the BATES family in GA for possible connections and for suggestions as to where to look.
