Bates in Quebec. John Bates (1794-1867) and Euphemia Robinson (1801-1870) emigrated from Co. Tyrone, N. Ireland to Argenteuil Co., Quebec, Canada about 1824. With them were Sarah Bates (1797-1866), her husband Jonathan Kelly (1797-1866), her father James Bates (1770-1852). Also Robert Bates and Elizabeth Melon, George Bates and Ann Campbell, James Bates jr. (m. Elizabeth Smith) and William Bates (m. Sarah Symenton) I would like any information on this family, particularly about their origins in Ireland. 1805 church records in Argenteuil Co. show a marriage of a John Bates and Elizabeth Lincoln.
