I am looking for information on James M Bates, birthday and State of birth unknown but believed to be South Carolina circa 1795-1800. James has only one known child- David Monroe Bates born May 18 1839 in Autauga County Alabama. James M Bates is believed to be the same James M Bates who married Levinia Johnson in Autauga County Alabama September 6 1832,Levinia may not be his first wife and James may be considerably older than her but this is mere speculation. James died circa 1843,his widow is believed to have married Warner Hurst on Jan 12 1843. David Monroe Bates was raised by Susan or Sarah Hughes and her husband Absolem who was a Baptist minister. Susan or Sarah's maiden name was Bates and she is believed to be the sister of James M Bates, she was born in Virginia in 1794. She recieved land from Henry Bates in 1843,Henry is also most likely related to this family. David Monroe Bates is believed to have been a member of the 53rd Alabama Cavalry Regiment "the Partisan Rangers",during the Civil War. David married Martha R Poole in Autauga County on November 8 1864. David and his family moved to Tipton County Tenn by 1880. Any information on James M Bates or David Monroe Bates would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Larry Bates [email protected]
