Researching the family of Charles Bates, born 1815 in Philadelphia, PA. Lived in the Kensington area and worked as a butcher. Son William Bates, born March 1835 in Philly, also a butcher. married first Margaret Jane unknown and second Sarah Jane Devlin in 1865 at St. Michael's Church in Kensington. Both William and Sarah died in 1911 and are buried at Holy Sepulcher in Philadelphia. First wife Margaret died 1862 and buried in Odd Fellows Cem. William had numerous children by both spouses.
