James BAITS married Elisabeth TUBB in Rutherford Co NC in 1782, she the daughter of William TUBB. (It seemed that everyone after that spelled their name BATES.) Is anyone out there researching BATES who has found it spelled BAITS/BAITES? There were others with this spelling, in North Carolina, Virginia and, I believe, New York.
