Public Lands were those lands acquired by the U.S. by treaty or purchase from foreign governments and cessions of Indian lands from the beginning of the U.S Government. In several southern states, lands were granted to individuals by Spain, and England prior to treaties which ended the revolutionary war and before the U.S. gained dominion over what is now AL and MS in 1798. Those grants are not covered by the public lands CDs. Your Uncle Sam has caught up with the times and now accepts VISA, MASTERCARD, and DISCOVER card orders.
