Trying to establish the ancestors of a JOSEPH BATES(c1730-c1790) who was granted 200 acres of land in Berkley Co., SC (now Union Co.) in 1758. This land was located on the lower Fairforest Creek, near the present town of Union. JOSEPH BATES JR.(c1755-1814) inherited this 200 acres from his father(above) and in turn sold this land in 1799 to his son JOSEPH BATES. This sale was made when THOMAS BATES JR(C1755-1814) was living in the "Settlement of Tombigbee" in the Territory of Mississippi. His land was located in what became Washington Co., AL and now Baldwin Co., AL. His will was probated 26 May 1814 in Baldwin Co., AL. Associated names in Union Co, SC are Thomas LAYTON.
